Top of the Hill Guesthouse & Villas

What a peaceful and beautiful to stay! We spent almost a week here as a family and we instantly felt welcomed and at home. Located just a 5-minute walk from Jungle Beach, and a short tuk-tuk ride to surfing areas and Weligama centre, this is a hidden gem of a guesthouse. The owners Saman and Anura were so friendly and relaxed, checking to see if we were happy and also on hand to give suggestions, tuk-tuk rides and even play a game of cricket in the grounds, their son with our son! Klaus was super helpful too with communications especially when we 'almost' needed to change our dates. We had a clean and very comfortable room with ice-cold AC when needed. The wraparound grounds are filled with beautiful plants and nature (monkeys, peacocks and lizards). The chef prepared lovely breakfasts and we had some superb evening meals of fresh seafood (red snapper, prawns and grilled squid) in a lovely dedicated eating area. Amazing value for money and if you're looking for somewhere to stay that's close to the action but is a peaceful retreat without the hustle and bustle of the town centre, we can't recommend Top of the Hill highly enough! Honestly, by the time we left, it felt like we had stayed with friends. Thank you for an unforgettable stay!

There wasn't anything we didn't like - it could be improved by having a small pool perhaps but honestly, the beach is so close and it might ruin the serenity of the grounds - so no biggy for us :)

I had a very comfortable stay in a quiet old style villa with ceiling fan or a/c if needed. Set in a wonderful garden with Peacocks wandering through and Leaf monkeys in the trees with lots of other birds, butterflies and Fireflies at night. Great breakfasts and dinners with fresh fish and calamari. If you want to go on a trip somewhere or early morning drop off at railway station, Anura will take you in his tuk-tuk.

there is no window glass in the family villa rooms. i mean at all. we've got a quite bad experience with a monkey (or whoever it could be). it invaded the bedroom and peed on the floor and pooped in the hall. so please be very careful when you reserve this villa and better ask the owner if they have a window glasses in the place you are willing to reserve
