Good starting point to explore the picturesque hamlets of the eastern shore of the lake: Bellano with the 45 km long hiking trail ?Sentiero del Viandante? which was originally part of the north-south connection between Milan and Switzerland, following the ancient paths passing small villages, chapels and former alpine pastures, with splendid views of the lake. Still in Bellano you can admire the Orrido, an impressive waterfall in a natural gorge formed 15 million years ago. Nearby you can visit the Santi Nazaro and Celso Church from the late Romanesque period and the Santa Marta Church from the 15th century.
