As a repeat visitor, everything about the home is great.. clean and well stocked with a fantastic view.

We are ship and water crazy and our first trip to the UP did not disappoint. The setting of the property is ideal for both. The house is well maintained and clean and quiet. The only drawback, which was our fault, was we were not prepared for how remote it would be. There were 2 eating places in DeTour. Drummond Island is said to have more if you are willing to take the ferry there. There is a grocery store and a Dollar store in DeTour so if you like to cook you’re covered.

This is our second consecutive year of vacationing here. 2025 was great! 2026 different. The place looks “tired”, could use a little TLC. Clean and/or replace area rugs, shower rugs. Overall carpet cleaned. Placemats had crusted white stuff stuck on them, Terra liquid ant bait visible…one was loaded with ant activity, outdoor deck, house & patio table need power washing, slider screen doors need various degrees of attention.
Pros:
-large kitchen space
-nice common area layout
-ample space on bathroom counters
-large deck out back, with three sliders leading to it from the house
- access to the shore
-lots of parking space
-excellent view of ships traveling the St. Mary’s river
-easy access to De Tour Village, easy drive to other Northern MI sights
Cons:
-no A/C-ended our stay a day early. Too hot & humid, house never cooled off. Very poor air circulation. Not enough windows with screens that could be opened. Was a beastly oven in that house.
-stairs down to the water are treacherous; insufficient hand railings, steps are not level/don’t feel sturdy, and it’s not lighted at all; one of our guests slipped & was bruised up after it suddenly started raining when he was down at the water
- insufficient supplies-we were only allotted 4 kitchen trash bags for a week for 4 people, which is bonkers; no replacement roll of paper towel, supplied our own. No facial tissues provided either.
-the place was sanitary but not clean; there was dust on the baseboard heaters, bits of chipped nail polish on the floor in the bathroom/in the bathroom rug, and bugs on the windowsills in most rooms
- the requirement list for checkout seemed excessive; out by 10am, launder & dry towels & dishes cleaned and put away; I’m okay stripping beds, starting the dishwasher, and taking trash out, but I’d have to get up at 6am to get a shower in, have breakfast, and let then start laundry and dishes to be able to get out by checkout time
- trash pickup was on Friday, we arrived on Saturday to an almost full trash bin, which made it difficult to dispose of our trash properly
Overall, it was ok. Don’t go when it’s going to be stupid hot outside, and bring your own supplies.
