Home and amenities were top notch! Quiet at evening as foliage blocks road noise. Stayed with a large group and slept on the pull-out bed in living room for 7 nights . Most comfortable pull-out I have ever used! Better than most hotel beds too!

very close to volcanoes national park, perfect place to stay and spend several days exploring the park.

Great place to stay while visiting the Volcano National Park. The home has everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. There is a well stocked kitchen, an information book is provided that is very helpful, along with printed maps detailing all there is to see in Hawaii. All beach necessities are in the home including snorkel gear, beach chairs, ice chests, etc. The home site is beautiful. It is located in a quiet and peaceful area. We enjoyed our stay and hope to be back again soon!

There was plenty of room for our big family. I was pleasantly surprised at how spacious it was on the inside.
They had a lot of things for young kids, like multiple cribs and plenty of toys to play with. There was also a good collection of board games and lawn games for the adults.
The amount of beach stuff was awesome as well.
There was plenty of dishes and cookware to cover all our needs, which was really nice.
I really enjoyed the stay!

This house was in the perfect spot to enjoy the big island. It is close enough to Hilo to go shopping for food and trinkets. An added plus is that it is also close to Volcano National Park to enjoy hiking. The house was fully stocked with everything we needed. The kitchen lacked for nothing! We even took time out of our stay to just sit at the picnic bench in the front and enjoy the foliage. The covered back porch, with table and chairs was perfect for the two times it decided to rain during our visit. The home owners were easy to work with for scheduling and checking in on us to make sure everything was running smoothly. I would absolutely stay at this house again!

This is a beautiful spacious and well-equipped home with great aloha. Clean and well-maintained home and yard. We enjoyed all the amenities. A few minute-drive to Kilauea Volcano National Park. A short 40-minute drive to all the Hilo activities and great snorkeling beaches. A pleasant and beautiful 2-hour drive to Kailua-Kona (west side). This a very peaceful place to relax and make your basecamp for all the island's numerous activities.

Space is close to Volcano National Park and big enough for our group of 6. It is an older home with a nice garden. Place is a little musty but being in the wettest place in the US, having the 3 large dehumidifiers help. We had to empty the 2 dehumidifiers downstairs twice a day! It’s not the cleanest place we’ve rented but for the size and location it’s good value.

We absolutely loved this house! The location was great and the yard is to die for! We loved being in the cooler higher elevation. The house was very spacious with lots of space for our belongings. We had plenty of supplies of everything we needed (blankets, pillows, soaps, trash bags, kitchen items of all sorts, etc). We loved being able to borrow anything we needed for the beach too! There were plenty of toys, games, and movies to keep our kids entertained at night. I cannot say enough good things about this house and it's property manager!
Tip: if the dehumidifiers won't turn on, it is because the water collection tank needs to be emptied (about every 8 hours or so). They work like a charm and controlled the humidity so well in the house!

The Mamane House is an amazing rainforest hideaway!!! Great for families big or small! Our family of three didn't even use the abundance of space downstairs, including the master bedroom. The two bedrooms and living area upstairs were plenty for us but should you have a large family or bigger group, this would be great also! Minutes from the National Park yet completely secluded in the rainforest. Large grass backyard, quaint picnic areas and beautiful rainforest plants on the property. 30 minutes from Hilo for all your beach needs. Speaking of beaches, make sure you check out all the beach gear downstairs! Chairs, coolers, snorkels! Check in/out was a breeze, would definitely recommend a stay at the Mamane House!

This house is on a large lot right in a jungle paradise. The grandkids could play in the fenced yard under the many trees. I loved being close to the volcano national park. With the 7 day pass we could go in and out to enjoy different hikes, and don't miss going at night to hike and see the lava bubbling. The drive to Hilo was only 20 minutes and we enjoyed beautiful beaches to swim, snorkel and find sea turtles. The house was clean and had 3 rooms and 2 large family rooms to accommodate sleeping grandkids. The large washer/dryer was so convenient. We enjoyed barbequing in the backyard.
We really enjoyed our stay and will be back to explore this island and use this house again.

We loved our stay at the Mamane house. Our kids enjoyed exploring the jungle yard, and falling asleep to the sounds of frogs each night. The location was great for access to the national park, and the drive to Hilo/beaches wasn’t bad. We really liked how kid friendly location was with pack and play, high chair and sleep mats available. Also had fast WiFi. Husband rented a bicycle from town and was able to easily store it under front stairs.

This home was the perfect Hawaii home away from home. The yard is incredible, and our kids loved being able to go out exploring, looking for lizards, or playing. You are surrounded by amazing jungle. I was working remote during our stay (great internet speeds) and loved sitting on Lani listening to birds or seeing wild pigs run through the yard. The kitchen comes well stocked so you can choose to cook at home easily.
The proximity to Volcano National Park allowed us to go in for short half-day trips, and experience all it had to offer. The close distance also allowed easy access in the evening to see the glow of the Volcano at night while it was erupting.
The city of Hilo is about 30 minutes away but we loved the smaller size compared to the busy tourist towns. Plenty of family-friendly beaches, lovely snorkeling and also if you enjoy surfing there are some smaller surfer beaches nearby with excellent beginner waves. Far more to experience than we had time for during our stay. We will be coming back to this home in the future!

We absolutely loved staying at the Mamane House! The home was able to accomodate all of us comfortably. We had 7 adults (my husband and I and our adult children) that stayed. The home is tucked away from the road in a quiet and safe neighborhood. It has a beautiful front and backyard to enjoy the outdoors. The backyard is very big and our kids enjoyed playing catch in the backyard. The home had everything we needed and even a BBQ grill. The location of the home was perfect. It's a short drive to the Volcano National Park and the town is so beautiful and friendly. We created many wonderful memories at the Mamane House with our kids. Loved it!!!

Everything was as advertised! Beautiful home, yard and scenery! I am very thankful that the Skankey family shared their home with others. You will not be disappointed. We stayed at 5 different locations on our visit to the island, this was the best! Close to everything and very relaxing to come back to.

really enjoy our time in Volcano. We went with 3 adult daughters and their partners and there was plenty of space for people to escape to a quiet corner to get away, even on the very rainy days. Really took advantage of the hikes and eruption at Volcano National Park. Also visited Hilo sites and beaches. Very good place. It rains more on this side but we are from Oregon and have the clothing to still get out. The house meet our needs.
Thom the local representative was great with info ahead and with questions during the stay. Great experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
It's close to the highway, so it's easy to locate on paved roads (no sketchy dirt roads to traverse!). Even though it's close to the highway it felt like we were transported to a secluded jungle oasis. You couldn't hear the road; all you heard was the sounds of the rain forest. We loved the large family friendly areas, as well as playing games out in the yard to wear out the little kids.
The temperature was awesome. We went in the middle of the summer, but we could leave our windows open at night. Which, after we would play at the beach all day, it was really great to get away from the heat and return to the cool mountain air.
It's about 30 minutes to Hilo, 5 minutes to Volcano village (close to GREAT restaurants!), and so it's a wonderful home to stay at away from all the touristy resorts and hotels in Hilo but close enough that we could travel there for the day.
We were there while the Volcano National Park was closed, so we were unable to take advantage of the close proximity to the park. That did not deter our adventures though. There is a zoo nearby, a world-class orchid garden, the Mauna Loa macadamia nut factory, a discovery center, (all of which are free to tour!) and plenty of beaches within 30 minutes of driving. Fun for all!
It's a perfect location for a tropical island getaway. Can't wait until we come again.

Ever since my stay at the Mamane House, when I think of the word 'relaxing' I think of this place. Beautiful, quiet, and private, this house is the perfect island getaway. The house has all of the amenities that I needed for my trip. The temperature was beautiful, cool and humid. The surrounding plant life is serene and picturesque. It really felt like you were all alone. Though a little out of the way, it isn't very far from the beach and any other normal touristy thing you would want to do. Whenever I hear of anyone wanting to go to Hawaii I always suggest the Mamane house. Never have I experienced a more complete feeling of peace and relaxation.

Our group thoroughly enjoy this peaceful and scenic location near the National Park. We enjoyed the open and spacious rooms, especially the master bedroom on the ground floor and the other bedrooms on the second level. The house was clean and comfortable with the necessary amenities needed for a enjoyable stay. Hilo was a short drive for shopping and other activities. We would defiantly recommend staying at this location and will seriously think about returning in the future. The owners were outstanding in communicating with us concerning our reservation and stay.

We stayed recently at the Mamane House and it was great. The home was equipped with everything we needed and it was nice after a long fun filled day to come back to a "home" instead of motel. There were 6 of us that stayed but there was definitely room for more. The location was great to see the volcano. I definitely recommend taking a trip to see that at night. Spectacular!! Thanks for letting us stay.

The location was fantastic for our adventures across the entire Big Island. It was great to come "home" after each day to such a spacious house and beautiful property. Literally minutes from the active volcano - a must see at night. The home is huge. We had 4 adults and 2 teenagers. We stayed in early October and the beaches and water temps on every beach in literally every corner of the island were perfect. The home is very well equipped with everything you need for an island vacation - plenty of towels, linens, and kitchen items. The owners insights were spot on, including the Kapoho tide pools and bike trip to the lava. We plan to return.

6 of us stayed at the Mamane house for 4 nights. There was more that enough room for all of us to get comfortable. This house offered everything we needed and more. Beach towels, beach chairs and the cooler were definitely a plus! It was perfectly located outside Volcano National park which we were able to see the steam vent rising and the glow from the lava at night with about a 10 minute drive into the park. 30 minutes south is the black sands beach which was also really cool, it almost always has sea turtles on the beach. 30 minutes north is Hilo and the Mauna Loa macadamia farm (which we toured) lots of great snorkeling sites within an hour or so. if you head into the town of Volcano, there is a little café called The Lava Rock café, if you are a fan of coconut PLEASE try their coconut cake! :) I would highly recommend staying at this house. I would definitely go again and take my kids.

We were 6 adults staying at Mamani House for 3 nights in July. Wonderfully appointed and supplied, absolutely beautiful grounds, the PERFECT launchpad for our activities in and about Volcano. Very strongly recommended !

Our stay at this property was great. The house had everything needed for cooking and sleeping for 8. We loved the beautiful grounds and the beach chairs and cooler were used everyday. We were so close to Volcanoes National Park that we checked the activity at the Lava Lake at night before going to bed. The house has beach towels, yard games and board games for the down time. Nice bathrooms with great towels. We appreciated the bottled water that was available. We can't wait to come back again.

I am a professional Chef, I loved the kitchen and was able to create grilled pineapple and prawns. It's a beautiful house and a great backyard. I hope everyone will have a great experience and long lasting memory like I do. We were able to go to the Volcano at night and experience Pele . It was unforgettable.
