We travel very frequently. Here's what we hoped previous reviews said:
Pros:
1) The hosts were very nice. Once reservations were finalized, we received good communications, instructions, check-in was easy.
2) Cleanliness - the place was clean and neat, the most important thing to us.
3) amenities inside: although we didn't use anything, there was a nice stove, fridge, microwave.
4) location - very good, block from the boardwalk
Opportunities for a better review from us:
Cost.... main complaint. This was a basement, with low ceilings. The starting cost was good - $136/night, but then throw in "host fee" and "service fee," we paid $525 for 2 nights. Here is my objective input on the "cons":
1) This is the only place we've ever stayed, where towels weren't even included. We flew from out of state, and didn't realize until we got there, we needed to go out to target Saturday morning and buy towels. There was a note we saw late Friday on the checkin text, we could have requested towels for an additional $10. As small as this may seem, come on.... $525, and you can't include 3 towels?
2) Noise - the tenants above us were not loud from music or partying, but we heard every step they took. It was so loud Saturday, it awoke us up at 2 in the morning. It sounded like a big group of people trudging around. I don't know if there's no insulation between floors or not, but it was loud. I think a function of the structure, not the people above. Just be aware of that.
3) Cleaning/host fee: Isn't this what the nightly fee is for? I know many VRBO's do this now, but we stayed 2 nights, weren't actually in the place for 15 hours, and left it in same condition as we found it. This could not have taken more than 15 minutes to clean after us. I would have been OK if we stayed a week, in summer, with sand, etc., but we were in an out.
Overall, if I was a college kid or young adult on a beach vacation, this would have been great at the base cost, but for us, looking for a quick place to sleep on a fast trip in and out, we wouldn't stay here again for $260/night, and I suspect much more in summer. If the additional costs weren't added, I would have given it a 4 star for the price.
