Quirky 1 bedroom barn on the river in Arundel

Stairs are very steep and narrow, quite concerning.

The location is great, easy access to everything you might need. It can be a bit loud sometimes as there's a lido nearby, but it was not really an issue. Lovely views. The host is very responsive. Upstairs TV in good working order.

The smell inside the house, specifically on the ground floor was PUTRID. I promptly reported this to Jane, who was responsive and she mentioned that the bathroom window should remain closed (it was, so it was never the case that it was an outside smell flowing inside). Outside was fine, so it's more likely inside the house - be it its sewage system, pipes, whatever. We felt sick. LOTS of flies inside the house to the point that we had to stop having dinner as it was unsustainable to keep killing them whilst trying to eat. Again, we didn't have any doors open at all so it was never the case of being too close to the river, etc. The outdoor furniture was too old and uncomfortable to sit and relax to appreciate the river and castle views, so we didn't manage to enjoy the area, unfortunately. Also, I might have missed in the pictures but there's a literal toilet to the right hand side of the double room (no walls, just a divider that "hides" it) and I found it quite odd. I've chosen to stay in this place over hotels precisely because I wanted to enjoy the cosiness of a romantic weekend with my partner, have slow mornings sipping a cuppa, but instead, we had to spend most of the time outside due to the horrid smell, so not worth the money unfortunately.
