We had an exceptional stay at this hotel. Everything was truly outstanding, from the beautiful and spotless room to the healthy and nutritious food. The staff welcomed us warmly with genuine smiles and even kindly offered us dinner despite our slightly late arrival, which we greatly appreciated. We stayed with my husband and our daughters, and the girls were absolutely delighted. They loved both the children’s menu and the opportunity to experience the morning service, which made our stay even more memorable. We highly recommend this hotel

Well it most certainly was an experience, that is the best way of putting it. Staying one night meant enjoying the best parts of this double edged sword that's for sure. The room was very nice, having a garden view and a comfortable set of chairs to enjoy it from. It was adequately heated and clean. The garden was quite enjoyable and even had its own path to a small shrine up the hill, besides stunning koif-ish. The dinner was very nice with a nice variety of smaller vegetarian dishes. Being able to participate in the morning ceremony was a fairly immersive experience as well.
Well for purpose of enjoying a nice accommodation, food and surroundings it provided less than the price would entail, compared to ryokans found in less expensive locations, which is fair given the competition. The garden was sadly slightly neglected, having broken tori gates littered along the path, strange tubes throughout the pond as well as metal and bamboo scrap laying about. The halls were frigid but that is to be somewhat expected. What was dissapointing was the breakfast, consisting of not much more than 2 small bowls of vegtebles besides the rice, miso and tea. All these aspects simply mean that staying a longer duration might not be worth it if you're looking for a comfortable and affordable experience. I would recommend staying here one night and then staying at kokuu guest house whilst exploring the surroundings.

The experience of sleeping in a real temple and take part of the prayers. Beautiful garden and shrine, very good food, amazing location
A bit cold in the common areas like hallways and common rooms. Staff doesn’t speak English.

The location for the night cemetary tour was perfect and also to walk around in the town.
It said that the staff spoke English and the morning service would be explained in English. This wasn‘t the case, it was only explained in Japanese. Since I was very interested in how the buddhist life is, this was very disappointing for me.
