Scoresby Retreat - Whitby Holiday Home

The house is very well decorated. The location is brilliant. The house is large. Brett was very responsive. Being able to park for free outside.

While the house is generally clean it did feel that the cleaners had rushed before our stay. Our main issue was that one of the matresses and it's bedding smelt strongly of urine which we discovered as we settled down to sleep on our first night. We stripped the bed and turned over the matress. We tried using new bedding from a different bed but the smell was very strong in the matress, despite having had a matress protector on. So we had to share a single bed. The morning was spent contacting Brett and he sent a man around to swap the matress with one next door and he provided new bedding. When we stripped the bedding on our first night we also found a nearly complete cracker on the matress underneath the matress protector. When we told Brett he laughed and asked if there was cheese with it. He didn't seem concerned that the bed hadn't been changed properly. He said the cleaners hadn't noticed anything. Other issues were that I had to wipe the drawers out before putting our clothes away and my son's drawer had a pubic hair in it as well as other hairs. The cutlery and crockery etc were dirty as was the kitchen bowl on the bottom. We couldn't use the tea towel left in the kitchen as it was dirty and had a piece of food on it. I did let Brett know about the other cleanliness issues but probably wouldn't have mentioned anything if it wasn't for the issue with the bed. The WiFi is patchy. The tap in the kitchen needs replacing. There was a musty, wet dog smell downstairs which they try to cover with a plug in air freshener. Reading previous reviews it seems that we were unlucky with our stay. It was not what we expected and caused stress.

Exactly what we expected. Bedrooms were a good size and very comfortable beds. Property was very clean and tidy. Excellent value for money.

Prime location for Whitby. House is big and spacious, clean and tidy. Perfect for our needs. They were also flexible allowing us an extra hour before checking out!

There isn't much not to like really! As an improvement I would recommend referring bookers to "JustPark" or something similar in addition to the on road parking available
