The finish was modern and comfortable. Cosy lounge and lovely kitchen.

Upstairs bathroom very inaccessible to use shower and sink. Initially unable to find the property as SAT NAV took us to to a different house. It was raining and late at night and this took an hour for us to finally find it … which was a huge relief. The kitchen lacked a few utensils such as wooden spoons and teaspoons.

The property looked newly painted inside and modern. Liked the lay out of the rooms. Lovely large tv in lounge. Leaflets to help with your stay was useful. Property had a large drive and plenty of room for parking. Not far from Cockermouth by car so close to supermarkets. Liked the idea of having a thermostat for each room. Cutlery and utensils were very clean and so was the kitchen cupboards.

Needs more care and attention when cleaning as on arrival found urine stain underneath the toilet seat. The floor was laminate downstairs and needed going over with a cleaning product. Stains and hairs on cushions in the living room. The stair carpet was dirty and needed a clean. No secure garden for dogs.

Heating at the property did not work and we had to contact the owner to get advice how to get hot water. This was unacceptable for a stay in the winter months and should have been maintained prior to rental. The kitchen utility items was minimal, ie no roasting tins etc...

We knew the location well having lived in the area in the past.

We paid a premium price for a two-night stay and unfortunately did not feel the standard of the property reflected the cost. The property would benefit from a thorough deep clean. There was orange mould visible on the shower tiles, which was quite off-putting, and the overall presentation felt tired. The beds were small and uncomfortable, the bedding had seen better days, and the towels provided were old and stained. To be fair, when we contacted the owner directly, they responded promptly and arranged for a friend to deliver some new towels, which we appreciated. However, it was extremely difficult to communicate through Sykes Cottages, making it harder than it should have been to resolve issues. The bathroom setup was also disappointing for a property accommodating four adults. There is only one shower, meaning everyone has to use the same bathroom, which offers little privacy. The upstairs bathroom contains only a bath, and there was a surprising lack of mirrors throughout the property. Outside, the property could do with some attention. The outdoor areas would benefit from a good sweep, and cushions for the garden furniture would make the space much more comfortable and inviting. We understand the property is currently up for sale, but it did feel as though maintenance and presentation were beginning to be neglected. Overall, while the location was good and the owner was helpful when contacted directly, the condition of the property and the facilities provided did not justify the price we paid. Unfortunately, we left feeling disappointed and that the accommodation did not offer good value for money.
