Food is a bit let down and key card does not work very well

For the price paid it was a very good stay.

The room was good, with a decent view. We enjoyed the outdoor pool and the steam room. Both lovely. Breakfast was ok, we’re vegetarian so took advantage of the good selection of cakes and pastries, some cereals and cheeses (although see next section for more details). The staff were friendly and happy to help.

Potential guests need to be aware that the hotel is just outside the small town of Estarreja with very little going on, or much to do (whilst we were there). There was some digging work going on outside our window which was a bit noisy, as was the adjacent busy road. During our visit in late September, there was virtually no other guests staying at the hotel and Estarreja was like a ghost town. I think we saw more hotel staff than guests! It’s a 20 minute, hot walk to the town and train station. When we booked, the hotel listing said we could hire bikes, we wanted to visit the local nature reserves and bikes would have been a god-send for us, but they weren’t available during our stay :-( Parts of the hotel seem dated and in need of some attention. The bathroom needed refreshing. The hotel breakfast coffee was substandard, especially after the excellent coffee we were drinking elsewhere in Portugal. There was no breakfast tea. We assumed the restocked Kit Kats and bottled water were complimentary but we were charged for them when we checked out.
