Great house, very clean with comfortable beds. Nice view of the lake and beautiful sunrise from the many windows in the front of the house. Nice bike and walking trails close by as well as boat launch. It was only about a mile to get out into Lake Michigan with the boat. The fireplace came in handy when the weather turned cold the last few days of our trip. Golfed and had dinner at Arcadia Bluffs which is only 10 minutes away.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at “the refuge”. Waking to the beautiful view of Portage Lake and being able to jump into a kayak for a morning (or afternoon/evening) paddle was terrific! My dog was living her best life swimming and chasing things in the reeds/cattails. Lovely home for a much needed respite.
We discovered wonderful farm stands within a 10-15 minute drive north on our way to Arcadia beach-gorgeous beach and good rock hunting if that’s your thing.
The EZ Mart has a decent grocery especially for a gas station! If you like to cook, be aware there is only salt and pepper in the Refuge so bring all your ingredients. The cabinets stick a little and could use knobs/pulls. Otherwise this is a beautiful peaceful retreat and is highly recommended!

Great place. Nice beach for the kids to play on water is very clear on the lake. Very nice house the host has everything you need. The property is very private and very quiet
