Casa da Judiaria Velha

Staying at Casa da Judiaria Velha is like traveling back in times in a “time capsule.” It is a meticulously restored and nicely decorated 15th century house situated in the middle of what used to be a Jewish quarter of Viseu. In “modern terms,” it is right in the middle of the old town Viseu and literally on the back of Viseu’s 12th century Cathedral. Perfect location aside, I will give full “five stars” for everything else: comfortable rooms, cool living/social area, fully equipped kitchen, and great outside terrace for a nice sunset dinner. But the greatest asset of this place is its owner: Teresa, an accomplished historian of Viseu and genuine champion of her hometown. I am very grateful to Teresa for both: offering a relaxed inviting place to stay and providing many interesting insights into the history of Viseu!

This place was put together with love. Teresa has done a great job making a lovely place to stay. There is a well-appointed kitchen to cook in, a cozy living room to hang out in with nice artwork, books and good lighting, and the bedroom was comfortable. She is great to chat with, and generous. Also the location is perfect - in the middle of the medieval area of the city. We will definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in Viseu in the future.
