UND House

The flat takes the whole 2nd floor of the building, while the owner's family lives on the first. It consists of one extra large hall with a fridge, many chairs, two tables and a sofa, supported by 2 ceiling fans. There is a lot of free space in the hall, unlike many other cramped appartment in Sri Lanka. 3 smaller rooms on the sides of the hall are small bedrooms. Each has a bed + insect net, with slight differences a small table, mirror or a rack for clothes can be present. One of them has AC, while the other 2 have electric fans. The kitchen is located entirely on the balcony (good idea) and is well-equipped with everything: a herd, sink, pots, dishes, cups, etc. A washing machine and drying wires are also there. "Kitchen"-balcony view exposes the railroad and amazing wilderness, with chipmunks and birds right on the tree within a hand reach, large monkeys, bats - a bit further, but still close. Despite that, the animals aren't disturbing and never tried to get on the balcony. The trains on the railroad are passing quickly and rarely. Since it is not the main streat, it's gets calm already in the evening. Other mentions: a well-lit bathroom with warm water in the shower, a small patio at the entrance facing the low-used road and another small balcony, albeit it faces only a neighboring house. The apartment was new and clean (which you learn to appreciate in Sri Lanka!). There is a small family shop right next door with water, vegetables and immediate necessities. Location-wise it's not far from the central bus stop of Unawatuna and a supermarket.The bus stop gets you either to the Dalawela beach (huge turtles coming at ~10:00, VERY recommended!) or for the travel to Galle or your next destination. Going the other direction for a bit more than a km gets you to the local beach and the only liquor shop in the town (if it matters for you). Of course tuk-tuks are all over the place.
