Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: The settlement of Lochmaddy serves as North Uist's economic and demographic hub, as it is where the daily boat from North Uist to Uig on Skye docks. Among Lochmaddy's many convenient amenities is a choice of hotels that include regional cuisine prepared with fresh, in-season ingredients. In the heart of Lochmaddy lies an award-winning museum and arts centre, as well as a tourist office stocked with information about things to do and see in the area. Traveling south from Lochmaddy, you'll reach the small town of Carinish after about 10 miles; from there, you may reach the causeway that will take you to Benbecula. The airport at Balivanich, Benbecula, also serves as a car rental hub, post office, bank, restaurant, and gas station. From Benbecula, you can reach South Uist through a bridge.
