About this house rental
An idyllic, secluded location away from the Ringstrasse: views of the Hekla volcano, mountains, and pastures with sheep and horses—on our Skinnhufa farm (130 hectares).
Nordurnes (ideal for 2 people) is cozy and comfortably furnished with a spacious living area and unobstructed views of the countryside. The very comfortable mattresses (2x90 cm) on the sleeping loft are accessible via a stepladder. The living area features a sleeper sofa (140 cm). The kitchenette is equipped with 2 electric hot plates, a microwave, toaster, electric kettle, and refrigerator.
Ideally located as a starting point for day trips to all attractions in southern Iceland—an information folder awaits you in the house. We’re also happy to provide advice and assistance on-site! And in winter, with a little luck, you can watch the Northern Lights right from your bedroom window!
Excursion destinations include, for example: Geysir, Gullfoss, Thingvellir, Skógar Waterfall & Museum, Vik (black sand beach) & Dyrhólaey (bird cliffs). Or take the ferry to the Westman Islands! Blue Lagoon and coastal road; Reykjavik is 80 km away. In summer: take the Highlands bus or a taxi to Landmannalaugar in the highlands to visit the hot springs.
Shops and swimming pools in Hella and Selfoss, as well as Fontana Spa and the Secret Lagoon, are easily accessible.
There’s an excellent horseback riding center 7 km from the house: riding for beginners and day trips for advanced riders; in the summer: www.herridarholl.is

Great host, beautiful house

If I could give this property 100 stars I would! I can best describe it as magical! For anyone who seeks quiet and solitude and the most breathtaking views, this is the place for you. The cottage is cozy, and adorable and set up with everything you need. We purchased groceries on the way as it's about a 20 min drive to the nearest store, and we cooked for ourselves and saved so much money as Iceland is expensive. Maja was so helpful and accommodating and provided excellent directions and information about the area, even about how to grocery shop! The cottage was immaculately clean and warm. We went in late April and the weather was rainy and cold, but we would come back after sightseeing to the cozy, warm cottage and it was wonderful. You can easily drive to many of the amazing locations around Southern Iceland from the cottage. Maja was warm and welcoming and we got to meet her adorable, friendly dog and she let us meet the horses. The view from every window is nothing short of spectacular. You can see glaciers and mountains and volcanos all around. There is no TV there, but we were glad of it as we preferred to look at the fantastic views and birdwatch. We got to see several types of birds including ptarmigan. Leaving Nordurnes Cottage was incredibly difficult and we could have stayed forever. It was the best vacation we have ever had! Iceland and Skinnhufa has stolen our hearts! We hope to return some day soon! Thank you Maja!!

We loved Maja's place. It is in a very quiet spot, while not being too far from the main road. It is conveniently located for exploring the area. The house itself is in a breathtaking location surrounded by fields, and Maja could not have been a better host. We would love to go back !
