Le Cers: a charming and characterful vacation rental

Located on the first floor of a restored historic farmhouse (a home full of character), opening onto a large, roofed balcony terrace with a private seating area and views of the park/garden and all the way to Toulouse across the rolling hills, we welcome you to two beautiful, independent 65 m² cottages that are comfortable and fully equipped: Wi-Fi internet, two full bedrooms with high-quality bedding, sleeps 4, a large living area opening onto the balcony with a fully equipped open-concept kitchen, 1 living room with a decorative fireplace/dining area, dishes, utensils, and linens, 1 bathroom with a bathtub/hydromassage shower, and a separate toilet.
Unique and rare furnishings and decor: lime and casein paintings, stained glass and mosaics, wood and wrought iron, marble, glass, solid wood furniture—all made from fine, traditional materials.
Geothermal heating, Wi-Fi, and linens included at no extra charge

Located near the unspoiled, wooded village of Montbrun-Lauragais, just 17 km from Toulouse, in the hills of the Lauragais region, a short walk from the Canal du Midi (2.5 km), the Gîtes de la Tabernole, on the Camino de Santiago, combine the tranquility and peace of the countryside with proximity to towns and the region’s main attractions, whether for leisure or business.
Surrounded by fields and hiking trails, our house is nestled in a large park/ wooded garden of 8,000 m², with no immediate neighbors, featuring a huge 90 m² L-shaped saltwater pool measuring 15 m x 5 m x 8 m, with a depth ranging from 0.85 to 2 meters, available for your use at any time. A barbecue area with tables is also available for your use as often as you’d like. The park/garden and its fruit trees invite you to explore their winding paths.

Climate Change: Our two vacation rentals are north-south facing. The walls are 80 cm thick; they are not made of concrete but of solid bricks known as “foraines,” which provide high thermal inertia. As is common throughout the south of France, in the summer, you should keep the windows closed during the day and leave them wide open at night. This is the oldest form of air conditioning: cross-ventilation. Where we’re located, there are no security concerns regarding property or people. The roof over the balcony/terrace provides protection from direct sunlight. In addition, the trees and vines planted along the walls serve as natural insulation. By taking precautions, we can maintain comfortable temperatures even during very hot periods. We’re going to install a highly efficient colonial-style ceiling fan in the main room and have a tower fan in the master bedroom. Finally, since tiger mosquitoes have started to appear, we’ll be installing removable mosquito nets in addition to the chemical-free repellent device in the guesthouse. Everything will be ready this summer.
An “Oasis Nature” garden and LPO (League for the Protection of Birds) refuge: This certification indicates that most of the garden is maintained with a focus on preserving biodiversity in all its forms: paths instead of lawns, natural lawns (orchids), free-standing trees, hedges regularly maintained with gentle pruning, and fruit trees pruned gently to encourage natural, unforced production. The “wild” aspect will allow you to discover the local flora and fauna and even—with an adult present for children—to observe life in the pond.
Right nearby: In the village (2.5 km away), you’ll find the bakery open every evening: sourdough bread, organic and locally sourced flours, baked in a wood-fired oven—real bread just like in the old days that keeps well... Every Thursday in the late afternoon, in the town square: a market featuring organic and local farmers (all kinds of produce available).

The hosts are friendly and warm people, the environment is unique amidst sunflower meadows, Montgiscard is nearby for all of the practical stuff.
We had a wonderful stay. The swimming pool was refreshing and is located in a paradise atmosphere.
Recommended for travelers that fancy peace and quiet in a natural and ecological environment.

The property is a converted farmhouse and barn. The hosts live one end, facing into their garden and the two gites are on the first floor at the other end accessed by a shared covered wooden balcony and seating area. At treetop level, the balcony was reminiscent of a safari lodge, with views of the sunset, butterflies and birds. The apartment was spacious and well equipped for a self catering stay. We stayed for a week, but as there was a washer/dryer you could stay much longer. Inside it is decorated in an artistic and rustic style, with photos of wildlife taken on the property and many home made mosaic touches and country furniture. The shower was hot and powerful. The large salinated (no chlorine) pool was the main feature of the gardens. The garden is a managed wildlife area, with paths cut through wild flowers and fruit trees. The pool is surrounded by aromatic culinary herbs which smelled beautifully in the heat. The surrounding countryside is arable land, of sunflowers, potatoes and wheat. It is a steep climb up from the canal du midi, only a few miles away in Montgiscard and the terrain is undulating hillside. The property is on a hilltop with long views and the nearest village is small but with an organic producers market, pretty church and a well preserved 17th century working windmill. The hosts were very charming and gave us some useful local knowledge of where to visit and had a comprehensive list of local restaurants and amenities.
