Good Karma Homestay

I must have good karma, because I feel lucky to have had the experiences I did during my stay in the village with the Bishwokarma family. I found that homestay food is far superior to hotel food. Their milk tea far surpasses other milk tea I’ve had in Nepal because they use milk fresh from their water buffalo. I picked green beans and okra from their garden which became part of our traditional food called dahl-bhat. If you want meat, they will butcher a chicken. They accommodated my minimal tolerance for spicy food. My hosts seemed to know everyone in the village which made me feel welcome and safe as we toured around Thakurdwara. In addition to the farm animals, I got to see elephants at the elephant stable and deer and monkeys in Bardia National Park! I was pleased to find that my private room had a western ceiling, mattress, and toilet, making my stay comfortable. The Bishwokarmas made feel like part of the family. I highly recommend you meet them too.

I liked everything about Good Karma Homestay.

Staying here felt like staying in a home with family! This place allows for you to live like a Nepali and take on (if you wish) the lifestyle this family leads day-to-day. It is just down the street from the entrance to Bardiya National Park and Tilak will personally take you in and give you an entire jungle safari experience. The community both in and around the homestay are fantastic and extraordinary welcoming and friendly! They’re happy to teach and let you learn how they live and give you a variety of options of things to do nearby! They were kind enough to take me to the weekly Friday markets, ritual services in the town, and even invite me to come play soccer with their son and his friends! I was able to take part in the cooking process and see what I was eating from farm to table, and the food is incredible, some of the best I’ve had since arriving in Nepal! Truly wonderful people and I cannot recommend them highly enough!

There honestly wasn’t anything I disliked here. I came to Nepal during off-season so some of my options were limited, but I will definitely be coming back here in the future during festival time! They were very hospitable and even though they’re just starting out, they’ve got the spirit and uniqueness that you won’t receive anywhere else!
