Lovely pub, good food, comfortable and very clean room.
Would of preferred a room with windows rather than sky lights.

Lovely room with amazing shower and extremely comfortable bed.
No cooked breakfast on the Saturday morning or Sunday morning, only toast or yoghurt, we had been informed by email a week before our stay about the breakfast, but we still paid the full price for the stay.

Lovely staff , very clean and tidy great food and bedrooms excellent with powerful showers.
The mattress on bed was sagging in middle in rm 5, likely needs to be renewed!

Great location Very friendly and helpful staff Room warm and bed comfy Lovely white fluffy towels Fresh bottles of drinking water each day Room very clean and plenty of room Great shower - water hot and powerful Can’t fault the room at all
The communal areas ie: the pub areas are very basic Very much a locals pub But everyone friendly just a bit rowdy
Breakfast was ‘continental’ as not doing full English at this time of year (February) we were warned in advance However we did expect more variety eg ham and cheese But it was just packets of cereal, bread for toast and jam Some pain au chocolat in wrappers and fruit (bananas and apples) we breakfasted just after 9 and no fruit left on one of our mornings So breakfast could be improved Evening meals very basic but great service from waiting staff We ate there on one eve them found local pubs doing much better food with more choice
Friday night was live music Very loud and could be heard clearly in our room We were warned ahead of our stay and it didn’t really bother us but is a point to note Music was pretty decent tho

The staff were very helpful, friendly and kind. Room was clean and comfortable. The evening meal was typical bar food but it was tasty.
Little things let it down. No shampoo in shower room. Blinds on Velux windows didn’t fit well. Mattress was too firm for me. No breakfast available till 8.30 and I had to leave by 8.00 to get to a meeting in Taunton. Was told there would be coffee out to take with me on departure but there was none. Find in parking was very challenging.

We were advised breakfasr at this time of year would not include cooked. But buffet sporead continental style was superb. And last day we had to leave early so they has breakfast available half an hour early
Would have liked a bath but most rooms showers

loved the welcome, and everyone was happy to help . The room was as expected for the price
Our room was as expected but there was a loud noise from the kitchens which we were not alerted to before hand . This was uncomfortable and I wish we had been told about this sos we could make a better choice of where we were going to book

Evening meal was excellent top chef. Staff was very helpful and pleasant.
The breakfast was very disappointing...expected a cooked breakfast but was informed the night before that it would be a continental breakfast ....no continental breakfast was offered just cereal, coffee and fruit juice ...spoilt our stay

Food was very good.
Freezing cold room on arrival, only heating was a fan heater which was very noisy.
Fire alarm went off at 5.15am one morning no staff on site. 3 numbers given for emergencies none of which answered the phone , it took several attempts. Eventually a lady turned up, while waiting we were sat outside in freezing conditions. She turned off the alarm and just put her thumbs up. When I asked why noone answered their phones , she just laughed and said she thought it was spam. No apology nothing just thumbs up ok to go back to your rooms.nothing !!
Next day room not made up so left with wet towels as no heat in rooms to dry them.
Would really not recommend.

Charming pub, very comfortable room and great breakfast
The carpark is tricky to find and was full when we first arrived but there was space later

The staff are lovely here, and it’s nice to relax in the bar area. I was really looked after in the restaurant, and I enjoyed the food during my stay.
The rooms are, well, roomy and very comfortable.
I defy anyone to use the thermometer in the room successfully, you can tap away at the dial and it does nothing. Thankfully, there are portable heaters to warm the rooms up.

Hotel has been modernised very well for an old Inn, that has a lot of history to it.

The food was excellent. Best veggie burger I’ve had in a pub.
Breakfast was also excellent with a good choice for veggies.
Staff were friendly.
Unfortunately, we were there on a very hot night and our room was like an oven, the fan provided was too noisy to sleep with it on.
The fire alarm went off during the night. There were no staff on the premises, and none of the emergency numbers given were answered. One of the guests managed to disable the alarm whilst another contacted the fire service.
I would have expected an explanation from the staff in the morning and maybe even an apology, but neither happened.

Breakfast was very good, no problem with that. However, food at dinner was not so good. I did mention this to staff at the time, but they just said they'll mention it to the chef!
The room we stayed in didn't really cater for women, no full length mirror, no shelves in the bathroom to place toiletries or make up, very dark area to sit and do make up and hair in the tiny mirror provided. The free standing lamp by the dressing table didn't work, which may have helped see a bit better. There were only 2 very small skylights in the room, (no window to look out of), so not enough natural light. The blinds for those skylights were also very tacky and threadbare. Everything in the room was very outdated and could do with a refurbish and fresh paint on the walls. Also problems with the shower, completely backed up, so couldn't shower for long as would've flooded the bathroom! Plus the temperature was too hot, even when turned right down to cold. For the price we paid for 2 nights, we were expecting so much better. We can't comment on the other rooms, but I'd like to think there were better than room no 8. The only positives were a very clean comfortable bed and very quiet, so at least we got a good night's sleep.

The room was lovely! Definitely worth the money. Bed was very comfortable. Check in was quick & easy. Lovely village location with a milkshake vending machine down the road! Great stay.
The breakfast was basic. Different sized breakfast options would have been abit better.

Very friendly staff and accommodating. We arrived on our cycles in the pouring rain (arrived Thursday 7th August 2025) - Hannah behind the bar checked to see if we could access our room early and we could which was wonderful. Our cycles were safely stored. Dinner in the bar was served by friendly courteous staff. The room (Rm 5) was perfect - we slept with the sound of the village church bells chiming softy in the background. Breakfast was a delight and again the most friendly of George Team Members helped us secure our booking for our return - thank you Kelly. Looking forward to our return on our way back to North Devon.
We’d highly recommend the George.
Can’t really think of anything

Nice large room, comfortable bed. Water, tea/coffee provided. Dog friendly. Staff friendly. Good location.
Food was a disappointment, every order took a long time to arrive, evening meal was wrong so waited 20+ mins for correct meal to arrive leaving the other person to eat alone.
Fire alarm went off 2 nights in a row, leaving us very tired.
