About this cottage rental
A cozy, yet contemporary house, tucked away in the woods, offering a peaceful getaway.
Higgins Lake and Houghton Lake are just minutes away, along with trails, parks, boating, paddling, fishing, golfing, hiking, and hunting.
Outdoors: A spacious front yard and secluded back yard. A fire pit , hammock, corn hole, picnic table, gas grill, and charcoal grill are available for use.
Pets: Pets are not allowed in the home.
Safety: Please note that there are steps into the home.
Bonfires: Should you wish to use the fire pit, new firewood is not readily provided, though there may be some available to use on the property and you are welcome to it. There are neighbors and nearby stores that send bundles for purchase. If you choose to have a fire, please be sure the fire is fully extinguished at the end of the evening.
Grilling: There is a grill on site. We request that it not be moved for safety. We provide grilling utensils in the kitchen. There may be a propane tank already installed, however, if it runs out we do not readily check/provide tanks. There are several nearby gas stations that will refill/provide a new tank if needed. If you need help with the tank install, please let us know! Also, please make sure to properly dispose of any grease.
Parking: There is parking available on the driveway, which fits 5-6 cars. Please note the home driveway is gravel and in Michigan winter months, may be snowy/icy. We’ve arranged for a snow plow the morning after snowfall and do provide salt/shovels, but please be aware of the potential hazard.
Dedicated workspace: A common area with wifi that’s well suited for working. Desk, chair, monitor, mouse, and keyboard provided.
TV: We have a 55in smart TV in the living room and a 55in TV in the master bedroom. Guests can watch whichever subscription service they already have (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc.)
Please message us if there is excessive snow so we can work on a solution for removal.

Great location between the north shore of Houghton Lake and south Higgins. Beautiful house that easily accommodated 4 adults and 3 teenagers.

This home is beautiful and amazingly clean! The only things that made my husband feel less welcome were the multiple signs around the house (along with tasks listed in the description to be done before leaving) reminding us of our responsibilities. It felt like the days my mom left me notes. Along with tasks listed were costs if they weren't done. I've stayed in many homes and this was the first time we felt there were penalties around every corner. Considering we paid $150 cleaning fee it should not be that we have so many tasks to fulfill or we'd be charged, especially when we didn't even use the upstairs. (But, that was my choice, I know.) It would have been nice to pull up at night to a motion light in the driveway and the thermostat higher than 58 degrees upon arrival (perhaps a programmable thermostat?). It is my hope that our experience helps the owner find ways to make stays at his lovely home more welcoming. (P.S. The automatic hall lights inside took some getting used to, as well, especially at 3 a.m. We could not find any way to pause this motion sensor.)

Amel was a great host! Responded very quickly, and was very accommodating to our requests. The house was very comfortable and well stocked for all of our needs. It was absolutely clean and cosy.
