Ribeira do Guilherme - Watermill house Botanic Garden

Magical location and beautiful garden. We couldn’t get enough of the view of driving down the path everytime. The ducks were walking around, there is a waterfall. It’s amazing. The house is really nice inside, well equipped (maybe a washing machine would be useful). Our host brought us firewood in a couple of hours, when we asked because we were cold and showed us how to make the fire too.

We stayed during non-stop rain for days, so the house became quite damp. That meant that it was hard to dry our wet clothes and was a bit cold at nights. Also since it is an old windmill house there are some leaks from the roof. But it gave to the charm. Don’t try to eat outside, the geese and ducks won’t let you :)

We loved the remote location and history behind this place. It's something out of a storey book if you love nature, waterfalls and history of watermills. We saw many while in the Azores and wondered why no one has restored any back to a functional facility. This place has done an amazing job. They also left us a welcome bottle of wine as well as some fruit. A great touch! Has some spices. The ducks and geese are a great bonus too and we enjoyed them greeting us throughout our stay.

The house has no air-conditioning which was not an issue for us in September. But could get humid in hot times I'd imagine. House is run off solar power only. Again not an issue for us but something others may want to know. Fridge is a small with a very small freezer area. Can't fit much in there if buying groceries for a longer stay. Was perfect for our 2 day stay. It is located in a public location. So from 8-345pm Mon to Fri you will have visitors right outside your door and in your outside picnic area. Weekends they are closed and there is a gate at the entrance to keep people out in off hours. Was not really an issue for us as we were out during the day anyway. But something to keep in mind when booking. House is musty smelling but they light candles to help with this which we loved! Comes with water running under the house I guess. Hard to get rid of.

De locatie. Werkelijk prachtig . Heerlijke plek. We konden ook barbecueën en hadden veel privacy.

Hard bed en erg vochtig.

Beautiful location! Garden is spectacular. The ducks were very cute.

Hard to dry clothes because of humidity in the house. Cold in the night. There was black stuff falling out of the ceiling in the bathroom and white stuff falling onto my things in the living room.
