Excellent location for a ski weekend

The location cannot be beat for proximity to First Bahn and walking around town! The room was clean and the shower is really good. The breakfast is good and the breakfast attendant was very pleasant to chat to.

Our room was on the 1st floor so it was a bit noisy until 10pm or so, and we could smell the restaurant downstairs. The mattress is very hard. There is limited parking available but we were able to find a place each time.

The Hotel is basically perfect. Friendly, helpful staff, clean, great location!

The breakfast is very nice with a wide selection. A lady that worked there, Jennifer, was so very kind and helpful. The Hotel is right on the main street, only steps away from 2 bus stops. The Alps punch up just across the street. The location is perfect.

Although I am not complaining, a small refrigerator in the room would have been nice and at least one English speaking channel on TV.

the Hotel Steinbock is right on the main street. Directly across the street and up the street about 30 steps are bus stops. The hotel is above one of the best restaurants in town and in your room, you DO NOT hear restaurant noises or smell the food.

Best location in Grindelwald

The location of this hotel is exceptional: it's directly next door to the Grindelwald-First cable car. Plus, you can walk to all the shops and restaurants in town. Our room was very large and in the back of the hotel, so it was very quiet. The hotel has parking, which is a big perk in this area: it's virtually impossible to find on-street parking. The staff were all very helpful and kind. The breakfast buffet was really nice.

I didn't realize this hotel doesn't have air-conditioning. We were overheating in our room at night, even with the window open. We also had a very odd room with 2 bathrooms: one of the sinks had water that smelled disgusting, like sulfur. Overall, the hotel seems a bit old and dingy: it's not a big deal, but it could use updating.

Very Minor suggestion our room facing front had big windows with pretty but sheer curtains. I would prefer option to have light blocking drapes to close when needed.

It was fine - staff were the best part

The staff was great. Jennifer was so pleasant every morning during breakfast and checking in was nice and easy. Location was great. Restaurant in the hotel was very delicious for dinner too

Room was super bare. No teapot of coffee. Had to ask for extra pillows - only came with two for 2 twin beds pushed together. Pillows were also very bad quality unfortunately.

Great hotel to stay 50 m away from First mountain cable car

Outstanding

I rarely do ratings but felt I had to due to the friendly and helpful staff at the Steinbock. Good breakfast, excellent location in the Main Street of Grindelwald but at the quieter end, excellent restaurant - we ended up eating there 2 out of 3 nights and wish we'd gone there all three. Many thanks to the team - the friendly guy at breakfast, lovely lady at check-in and the manager who always found us a table for dinner.

Spacious B&B room in a great location in Grindelwald

The room was very spacious, biggest we’ve stayed in throughout our trip in Switzerland. We’re so lucky to secure it as all other mid-class hotels were booked for summer since the year before! Since the hotel is part of a restaurant, it was easy to find food. It’s right next to the cable car going up to First Mountain, and only a short walk away from the train station.

No aircond but Grindelwald is not too hot in early summer, so it was bearable.

Very friendly host and good location. It's a one minute walk to the best coffee place. The hotel has its own restaurant and serves breakfast in the morning.

The receptionist was helpful.

The room was small, the bathroom was so small that one has to first open the door, then somehow maneuver around it,then close it. No amenities except for soap. The location is not particularly good. For the very high price we paid, we expected a nice room.

Very enjoyable property smack dab in the middle of the beautiful Jungfrau region

Very clean and comfortable hotel right next to the Grindenwald First gondola. Great homebase to visit three or four other mountain cities from. Short walk to grocery stores. Enjoyable local dining. The beds were extremely comfortable with wonderful pillows. The showers were large and had good water pressure.The breakfast was well above standard. Exceptional cappuccino and croissants. The staff was very engaging and professional. Parking was free. We would definitely stay here again and happily recommend it to others.

Fantastic- would recommend!!

Location was great - perfect to base ourselves to explore Grindelwald for a few days. Rooms were comfortable, spacious and good facilities. Breakfast was great (we forgot this was included in our booking and it was a really great surprise) - lots of options and great service. Free parking on site was really convenient too. Despite being right in the town, we woke up to peaceful birds and cows in the morning which was really relaxing. Staff were fantastic- shout out to Jenny for making a 10/10 hot chocolate for me!

Pricepoint was on the high side, though probably comparable for the area/ Switzerland in general.

Could have been better

This is by far the most expensive hotel we paid during our 12 day trip. Staff were friendly. The bathrooms looked like they had recently been renovated. clean.

- A room with no view (or at least parking view). - The hot and cold water couldn't be controlled. it was either boiling hot, or freezing cold. i was screaming in the shower when suddenly the water became too hot or too cold. not sure if this happened during peak hours ppl used the bathroom or it was just our room. We paid so much, didnt expect this to happen. The hotel is on the other side of the road, so you dont really get the majestic view of the alps

Breakfast was fabulous. All local meats and cheeses. Room was lovely as well. Location was great - 10 min walk from the train station. Love that they give you a bus pass a a tourist. Thanks so much!

Our bathroom was beautiful - recently remodeled. I did see mold starting to grow in the shower. It's a humid climate and there was no fan in the shower. It wasn't anything alarming but if you are sensitive to mold, I wanted to make sure to mention it. I meant to mention it to the staff but she was on the phone when we left and I totally forgot. I am positive that they would have listened and remedied.

The staff was very very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were able to get in after a long and late night of traveling to the hotel! The main lady in the restaurant also went out of her way to accommodate gf bread for me for each breakfast and even sent some for me to take for a later meal.

The pillows are very flat, difficult to sleep comfortably. No mini refrigerator or anything to save leftovers.

The only advantage may be that the bathroom has a right-angle double-sided mirror.

If you have stayed in other hotels here you will know that this one is very poor value. From the room to the breakfast. But if you don't compare, there is nothing major wrong with the hotel itself. The most unsatisfactory is the corner room on the ground floor, where all three windows are at a height where the outside can be turned right in. People coming and going outside would look in. The house is definitely not worth the price.
