Welcome to Hopfen und Malz, your vacation apartments in the Fichtelgebirge.
The two apartments, Hopfen and Malz, located on Schneebergweg, both offer a beautiful view of the Fichtelgebirge’s landmark, the 1,024-meter-high Ochsenkopf. From here, it’s about a 20-minute walk through the forest to the idyllic and legendary Fichtelsee. In the other direction, you can easily reach the village—with its shopping options and diverse dining scene—on foot or by car.
Our MALZ apartment was newly built in the fall of 2021 and combines modern, high-quality amenities with the timeless architecture of the former Waldeck guesthouse. Its larger counterpart, HOPFEN, followed in September 2022.
The new apartments have been furnished with great care and high-quality materials. The kitchen is fully equipped and features modern appliances. The carefully coordinated materials and colors are sustainable, and together with the rain shower, they offer a high quality of living and a sense of well-being. Both apartments feature spacious, covered balconies. These, along with access to the terrace, allow you to enjoy the sun or find shade at any time of day.
The large courtyard driveway provides a parking space for your car. The excellent infrastructure allows you to explore all directions: the festival cities of Bayreuth and Wunsiedel, the World Heritage Site of Bamberg, the porcelain town of Selb, the Bohemian spas in the Czech Republic, wellness in Bad Alexandersbad, or Weissenstadt. The numerous hiking, skiing, and biking trails are also just a few minutes away, as are Schneeberg, Ochsenkopf, themed hiking trails, the sources of the Main, Eger, Naab, and Saale rivers, ski lifts in Neubau, Mehlmeisel, Fleckl, and Bischofsgrün, a climbing park, and the Alpine Coaster...

Vacation rentals steeped in tradition For many decades, our (in-laws) Friedlinde and Adolf Braun ran the Waldeck Guesthouse in Fichtelberg with great success.
It was important to us that this tradition live on. That’s why we—Michael Braun and Christianne
Braun-Breuer—took over the property in 2021 and completely renovated it. The result is two modern, high-end vacation apartments that blend seamlessly with the timeless architecture of the former guesthouse.
Turning old into new! And yet, some things remain the same: our commitment to the well-being of our guests.
