About this house rental

The Historic Shankle Ranch, including an airstrip and hanger for their Stearman J-5 and Lockheed Sirus, was built in 1930 by Dutch & Joan Shankle, both prominent national aviators and in the Arizona Aviation Hall of Fame. While the airstrip, hanger, and planes are gone, what remains is a serene, beautiful, gated historic ranch home with gorgeous views of Mt. Wrightston, hiking and birding along the Santa Cruz River, minutes from spas, golf, tennis, and the Historic Village of Tubac, AZ “Where Art & History Meet", and 2021 and 2022 winner of USA Today 10Best "Best Small Town Arts Scene". Tubac offers numerous art galleries, quaint shops, fantastic restaurants, live music, and an opportunity to explore the history of Southern Arizona at the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and the Tumacacori National Historic Park. Tubac, AZ is truly the greatest hidden gem in the Southwest!

Also on property is the Tubac Treehouse and the Tubac Bunkhouse which is also available for rent.

Our group of 14 had a fantastic stay at this ranch property. It truly lived up to our expectations. There was more than enough space for everyone to spread out comfortably, both indoors and outside, which made it perfect for a larger group like ours. The views were absolutely amazing, especially at sunset. One of the most fun surprises was discovering a treehouse on the property that we didn’t even know about, it added such a unique and memorable touch to the experience. The pool area great, though the water wasn’t quite warm enough in April for us to fully enjoy it. We also didn’t end up using the jacuzzi, but it was a nice option to have. The kitchen setup worked really well for our group, especially with two refrigerators, which made it easy to store all the food and drinks we brought along. The home’s unique antique decor and authentic ranch style truly stood out, it felt like stepping back in time. With about100 years of history, the character of the house added a special charm.Overall, this was a wonderful stay, and we’d absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a spacious, scenic getaway for a group of friends

The Historic Shankle Ranch was the perfect place for our family to gather. There were plenty of comfortable spaces to connect—both as a group and in smaller conversations—and the indoor and outdoor fireplaces added a wonderful ambiance. The sunrise and mountain views were absolutely stunning. We enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and the incredible treehouse, which made our stay extra special. The home was exceptionally well equipped, and our hosts were attentive and responsive throughout our stay. We will definitely be back!
