Staying at a historical museum was very exciting. There is a small single private onsen bath, which was cute and relaxing. We liked Ikuno town and the mines. It was a very unique experience. I highly recommend it for experiencing rural Japan and history.
Sleeping on a real futons is hard on older bodies. I should have asked for another layer of mattress.

Le côté authentique et vintage. Au cœur du village. Parking gratuit attribué à proximité. Village au cœur du Japon à l’écart des flots de touristes.
Rien. Étape à faire car la visite de la mine est très intéressante.

This was the best stay we had on our four month journey through japan. We spent christmas and new years here. It was truly a very special experience to basically live in a museum. We really loved the traditional house! The host, Réhan, was unbelievably kind and we even got along really well. He gave us advise on what to see and do and was able to tell us a lot about the interesting history of Ikuno. And he even drove us to the silver mine and to the train station! The village itself is really nice and we even got to participate in some mochi making at a local families house! There’s a lot of day trips you can do from this place as well, like to Himeji or Kinosali onsen. And there’s also lots to see in and to learn about Ikuno. Ringing the bell at a temple on New years eve was also a very special experience. We couldn’t have imagined a better place to have a calm and cozy retreat but also to gain some authentic japanese experiences. Thank you very much for you outstanding hospitality, Réhan!
The only thing we needed to get used to was the heating via kerosene powered heaters since we came in winter. But we got used to it quickly and it made the experience feel even more authentic.
