Wheelwright's Barn

Lovely quiet location for accommodation, garden a lovely feature, very clean and comfortable.

To help find the location easier on first arrival, it would help to include in the location instructions that you are looking for the 'The Elms' (as there is a small sign for this on the roadside) - there is no sign for Wheelright's Barn.

Door was unlocked on arrival with keys in, unlock message specified lock box nearby, which is fine, just unexpected. House was nice and well kept, facilities and especially kitchen in good order.

Flies... A biblical plague of flies that really spoiled the trip for us. Being a barn conversion in a rural location you expect some flies... But the infestation was so bad you couldnt eat or drink in the property without the flies being all over your meal. It became a huge source of anxiety and eventually we gave up eating there altogether, which is worse than it sounds as the options for eating out nearby, especially with small children are sparse. From the guest book I gather the flies have ruined the stay of previois guests too. We didn't contact the owners because once we're there, theyre limited in what can be done. But what would have been appreciated would have been a UV zapper installed in advance to mitigate the issue.

It was spacious and comfortable with a pleasant garden to sit out in - weather permitting. The bathrooms are lovely and everything in the kitchen worked.

It was difficult to find. We knew we were close but there was no name outside the barn. The website map was misleading. It was difficult driving out onto the road as visibility was limited. We would have liked some cereal bowls. A tray would have been useful for taking things through to the dining area. One cold night we would have lit a fire but had no matches and felt disinclined to go out again to buy them.
