BALCON BLANC - Auberge à Chicoutimi, Saguenay

Pleasant location in a "leafy" suburban residential area. Trees outside were appreciated. Facilities were okay. The property is only a short distance from the beautiful River Saguenay, and the attractive small town centre of Saguenay which I enjoyed at the end of my stay, which was mainly spent a conference at a large hotel 2km away in (personally) a less attractive area. I can commend Saguenay as a pleasant small place with the beautiful river, good cafes and restaurants, and even a good sized and highly civilised library and good book shop.

It was difficult to work out how to gain access to my room within the house from the outside. There are notices at places on the property in French which I only partly understood. My difficulty was mainly due to texted and other instructions being in French with no English translation (or at least not apparent to me). Unfortunately I had French lessons over 50 years ago while at school, and have had little use of the language since that time. (I will try to prepare better if I ever visit Quebec state again). Fortunately two other people were arriving at the same time, with better understanding of French and they helped me work out where to put the code in, and where to press to unlock the outer door etc. There is nobody at the property to assist your entry and the phone number, messaging system was difficult to use. However the room itself was pleasant enough and comfortable. P.S. One evening a man came to the property knocking repeatedly on door, asking that I let him in. He stated that he needed a room for the night. I asked whether he had made a booking but he showed no evidence for this so I had to tell him I could not help.

-La proximité pour le centre-ville -silencieux malgré que jai entendue un cadran ce matin -accès facile et pas de clefs à gerer

Salle de bains avec odeurs degout...Dans un vieux garde de robe... Pas vraiment intimité... Les murs seraient du pour une ptite couche de peinture... Personne est passer faire le lit ou rafraîchir les lieux... +700$ pour deux nuits...j'avais des attentes plus élevées...ma femme etait déçus!
