Marquês Deluxe Apartments 3 & 4

Accommodation prices in Lisbon and Porto are highly inflated but this apartment (at 70 Euros a night) while far from cheap, offered a good value for money. It is good size and in a residential area with about 30-35 minutes walk in a straight line to the center/old town. There is a supermarket right next door which is very convenient to get supplies. It also comes equipped to cook your meals. The host was communicative and helpful throughout.

We booked apartment with balcony but the one given to us didn't have balcony. While it didn't matter, this rather counts as false advertising which leaves a bad taste.

Large, comfortable, close to the metro station, clean, large supermarket (Pingo) directly next door, good appliances ( washing machine, fridge, TV,- hairdryer and iron both Rowenta), good security,

Took quite a while for the hot water to come into the taps in the kitchen and bathroom, poor lighting in bathroom for shaving or makeup( no window so requires extra light), no privacy (sheer) curtains so dressing in totally dark or fully exposed lighting, a bit of street noise although didn’t really bother us

The location is excellent, it is just a short walk from Marques metro station on the yellow line, which takes you to the city center, Sao Bento and Vila Nova de Gaia in 5–10 minutes. There’s a supermarket right downstairs and an Auchan about 500 meters away. If you’re looking for a gym, Fox Gym is also 500 meters from the property; a day pass is 10 euros and the staff are great. The area is quiet at night, which is a big advantage since central Porto can be very noisy. When heading back from the riverside in the evening, an Uber/Bolt costs around 6-9 euros. The apartment itself is a spacious duplex with a well equipped kitchen. We bought some unique wines during our stay and enjoyed cooking at home to pair them properly. The living room has a smart TV, and there’s also a lovely terrace that we couldn’t fully enjoy due to the weather, but it must be great on sunny days. The space is very generous, perfect for two people, but comfortable for up to four, with two double beds and a large coach in the living room. Heating is provided through AC units (one in the living room and two upstairs), which worked well during our stay. The host was very kind, gave us helpful recommendations, and check-in was straightforward. My recommendations: - visit Arouca and 516 bridge, Vila Nova de Gaia with 1-2 wine tours, Duoro Valley. - for extraordinary wine: check Garrafeira Nacionale (tax free wine if not from EU), excellent prices. - for good fish: just take the metro to Matosinhos and find a restaurant there, good quality. There is also a nice location called Timeout Market near Sao Bento, very good variety of food.

It was a little challenging to use the washing machine (doesn’t really do what you want) and some small issue with the drainage in the bathroom, but we managed to solve both.
