We enjoyed Izmir!

The top floor apartment has terrific views of the bay and city. It is uphill from most things, but an easy enough walk to taxi stand and market. The bed was comfortable. Bathroom clean. Inside and outside sitting areas were nice. Lots to see and do in Izmir.

Kitchen is a little dated, but adequately stocked with cookware tableware if you plan to prepare meals in. The gas cooktop took getting use to.

Budget Stay

The location of the property was just amazing. The owners were kind enough to accommodate our request of checking in.

The basic amenities were missing — such as toiletries, extra towels, and a contact number to request them. The property also needs renovation, particularly the bathrooms and sitting areas, which had a noticeable musty smell.

Location was conveniently close to the pier and not too far from some cafés and stores. View from our room and from the rooftop balcony was beautiful. AC was very very nice to have since the weather was hot when we stayed.

Nice place with minor caveats

The property manager (her name is Gizem) was so helpful and discerning. I asked her to shorten our stay from 8 to 1-2 nights because the property was different from our expectations, and she agreed to 3 nights even though that meant loss of business for her in times that tourism in Turkey has been hit due to inflation and other regional issues. I also appreciated her sympathizing with our reasons for asking to shorten the stay and refunding the unused nights despite the deal was nonrefundable, including the difficulties that one person in our party had in climbing the stairs and our concerns with our child around old furniture with sharp glass edges and fragile antique decorations. She made it really easy overall, for which I am grateful. Moreover, when the town had a water outage for a day (not the property's fault), she provided ample bottled water until it was restored. She was generally polite, available, communicative, and overall attentive to the guests' needs.

There are a few caveats, though. First, I recommend staying here if you are curious about an authentic old-school Konak apartment experience with antique furniture and decorations and do not care about luxury, accessibility, and amenities of a typical hotel. It was not hard to find modern hotels at a similar price (150€ per night at the time of our trip) or lower, with more flexible refund policies and more walkable to downtown. Keep in mind that the beautiful views from the hilltop come at the expense of having to climb extremely steep alleys and stairway alleys even for what appears a short walk to the bay or downtown. You probably need a taxi for every trip, at least uphill, which would cost the minimum amount (120TL at the time of our trip) so it is fine. I also think the advertisement does not fairly represent the property. The actual amenities were different from what appeared online. For example, most of the pictures showing a spacious furnished unit and balcony are for a "penthouse" that is not entirely rentable anymore and can only be used as a common space despite looking like a family unit, while the biggest "family suites" for stays are quite smaller and less attractive. The balcony and rooftop bar are completely abandoned, unlike the dynamic image that is portrayed in the older pictures, from the times they were in use when tourism was more vibrant in Izmir. The images give the impression of multiple families socializing, active entertainment, breakfast, refreshments, and so on. The reality was a quiet apartment in a small building, a really nice view, and a basic roof (not a rooftop restaurant or bar) that is of little use other than watching the sunset for a few minutes by yourself as you please. These are all fine but different from what we expected from the online profile.

I would not book this property again.

The view was outstanding.

The property was not clean. There was black mold in the bathroom, the cooking pots were dirty, there were cigarette burns in the couch, and the floors and carpets had not been cleaned. It is advertised as a heritage building but it is very run down and in need of proper restoration.

The best view in Izmir!!

This apartment has a spectacular view from two terraces on the roof as well as from my apartment which also had a terrace! This was a big draw for me in booking this apartment and it did not disappoint! This is hands down the best view of Izmir. I was able to watch stunning sunsets every night! The apartment was a bit dated but charming and the incredible view made up for any shortcomings. I was traveling alone and felt safe as a female traveler. The host was very responsive, helpful, and accommodating. She came to help me get oriented in the surroundings neighborhood and how to get to the old own. She also allowed me an extended late check out which was very helpful. It is possible to walk to the old town (20 min) but can be difficult for people with mobility issues. But here is also a bus station close by. There is a market and bakery about a 7 min walk from the apartment but be mindful that there are hills and stairs to get there and back. It was not a problem for me but might be a concerns for anyone with mobility issues. This apartment is in a quiet residential neighborhood which added to the charm. It was comfortable and excellent value for the money. The view alone is worth everything. I would not comeback to Izmir unless I am able to stay here again! I am totally spoiled by the amazing experience I had at the Boyuk Konak Izmir!

The furnishings are a bit dated, but add to the charm. For longer stays, the kitchen could be better appointed for food preparation and cooking.

Quaint, historic apartment with a fantastic view!

As promised, the view is incredible! Beautiful sunsets across the harbor. Also, the historic building made the apartment space very unique, with curved walls, tile, cupboards and window shutters. The kitchen is large, with many useful dishes and items provided. The beds and furniture were very comfortable, and we loved the decor to fit the era of the building. Access to the market and downtown area was very easy to figure out, and we enjoyed being able to see what a typical older residential area and delicious local restaurants in Izmir are like. The staff we only met upon arrival but they were very helpful and we easily contacted them via WhatsApp.

The apartment was very clean, but due to age, there was some mold around the bathroom sink. Everything else was in great shape. It would be nice to have some paper towel and kitchen towels provided so we could clean up dishes and wipe the table, which is a very small thing- easy to fix. We had a rental car, so driving was a little challenging but we did it just fine with GPS.

Lots of character and a great view

Great place with lots of character. Easy to walk to a little group of restaurants and shops. The view was incredible from both the room and the rooftop terrace. I wish we had been able to stay longer.

Warm place

We like this place. Confort/price ratio was good. Authentic style and many ancient artefacts - it is something. The personal is super as well. Unfortunately in April the breakfast wasn’t available. In any case if I visit Izmir again I would go to this place again.

Great location but room for improvement

Location is a huge plus, great view and quiet street with easy parking. Hygenics was however disappointing, the accommodation felt like a museum which isn’t necessarily bad, it was even cosy, but it just wasn’t clean. Sealants in bathroom were black, we had to clean all dishes in the kitchen before using them because they were dirty. There were not even proper glasses or cups for tea/coffee for enough people. Sponges and brush for the dishes were looking like they had been used for years, and there was no towel to dry the dishes. How difficult is it to give to people a new and clean €0.10 sponge to do their dishes? Also one of the beds was missing some feet.

A view fit for Byzantine imperials and cool folks working at reception

The roof top has unobstructed views of the city including the water. The penthouse has in- room access doors. The location of hotel is excellent -- the corniche, cafes, local shops and parks including the landmark tower within a 5 minute walk. Room was spacious and staff were lovely and helpful!

Highly recommended: beautiful terrace, exceptional staff

We had a wonderful stay! The beautiful terrace with a view over Izmir's bay was a true highlight. The staff were exceptional, they made us feel welcome and their fluent English (a rarity during our travels in Turkey) made our experience even more enjoyable. The city centre is just 15-20 walk away.

The hotel is located on top of a hill, which makes it perfect for the view, but the walk back from the city centre might be challenging for some people. It wasn't a problem for us in any case.

Superb

The staff was really accomodating and the hostess was really attentive to our every need. The communication before and during our stay was simless. We were able to leave our luggage there the next day to explore, with no issue and the reception services were a bonus we didn't except. The view was spectacular and the apartment was so well preserved. A wonderfull mix between modern and new. One of the best places I have stayed in Turkey!

The rooftop was supposed to be at the disposal of the guests, but it was recently converted into a bar. Nice idea as the view is amazing, and something a lot of hotels take advantage of. I would prefer though, if it was mentioned beforehand.

Great view, location close to the centre, house with the history and heritage, nice terrace. Thanks for the tea and water provided.

No shops or restaurants nearby, so you need to order food from outside. Building is located on the hill, so you need to walk up and down the stairs, which is not comfortable with the babycot. Interior is nice, but it would be good to clean the bathroom better (there was black mould).

Very enjoyable 6 day break.

Really enjoyed the City Break. Superb hosts....extremely helpful and accommodating. Accommodation was very clean and close to central area...15 mins approx. Super views over the City from the balcony and roof terrace. Izmir has excellent public transport facilities...buses, trams, ferries and underground.

Not that we didn't like it, but it's quite a steep, hilly area around the accommodation so we used the plentiful buses rather than walking.

the view from the window is really amazing. It has everything we need in the room. The lady who welcomed us is awesome. She even prepared cake for us. All in all, I enjoyed the stay.

In order to get to the rooftop terrance, you have to pass by the balcony of the penthouse, which is awkward because you have to bother and communicate those guests in penthouse.

Superb

We loved the apartment - very comfortable and spacious. Really nice place to stay! It made our stay very enjoyable and loved being able to cook and relax in the evening.

Luckily we are quite fit so getting up the steep hills wasn't a problem, but location would be challenging for anyone who isn't a good walker.
