The owner (Judith) was very knowledgeable about the area, including hiking the nearby mountain, things to do with or without kids, ways to get around, etc. Very helpful and kind. She speaks Korean, English, Chinese, and I think Indonesian. Anyway, it is a lot of languages! Place is super clean and spotless. Very friendly vibe so other travelers hung out in the main area and chatted, but still a very quiet place. Very close to the famous local market. The guesthouse is about a 15 minute walk from 1 of the bus stations. There are 2 stations coming into the city, so be careful which one you book if coming by bus. Close to the regular buses to get wherever you want to go in the area. For my American/European friends, they use Korean towels - the size of our hand towels.The shower is attached to the sink - like in many Korean guesthouses. Bed was med firm and comfy. The coffee is especially good! A washing machine is available for a fee. One of my favorite places in five years of full time travel because of Judith! Highly recommend.
Nothing I didn't like, but something to be aware of - Booking says there is a view of the sea, but you need to go to one of the upper floors to get a view. Other than that, everything is fine.

We stayed at Sokcho & Guesthouse over the summer and had an amazing time. It was super comfortable, homely, and charming throughout. Our host, Judith, was exceptionally kind and supportive: it was our first time in South Korea and we spoke little Korean, but she patiently explained Sokcho to us and gave us great ideas of what to do, and was proactive in helping us book and organise things for our family including bus tickets. We had a lovely chat with her and her son about South Korea, and came away with a real sense that this was a warm, family-run, caring place to stay. We’d definitely return, and we have very fond memories of our time in Sokcho at Sokcho & Guesthouse.
