SPITI Calliope

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Kathikas, with its fantastic restaurants and charming houses. The house itself was very comfortable and the separate accommodation could be very useful for couples and friends sharing. The 4 poster bed was extremely comfortable and great to have a/c and a fan. Our en suite bathroom was new, and we appreciated the nice products that were provided. There's a lovely seating area outside too. Marinos was a brilliant host - so responsive and organised.

Securing the house should not be a military operation! The only real negative (but it is quite a big one!) was the doors - beautiful, but stiff and heavy. You can easily get locked in (which we did) or out (which we did) and you need to put the key in one house to operate the electricity, which means you cannot lock it at night if you are staying in the other part of the house. Plus, since there's no electricity, there's also no way for you to see when you come in at night. Very frustrating! I understand why this function is here, but, as we took security of someone else's house very seriously, it's uncomfortable and time-consuming. I also felt Marinos could've given us a few little tips on how best to do it. I've also taken a mark off cleanliness because I feel the sofa needed a deep clean and the kitchen felt very outdated compared with the rest of the house. (I would have put a sheet over it, but couldn't find a spare one.)

Well equipped, clean, quiet, traditional design and close to the village square and to a playground with small football and tennis courts.

We had a lovely weeks stay in Spiti Calliope. It is in a great location in a small pretty village. There are several restaurants in walking distance and two vineyards at a short drive. It is a 30 minute drive or less from some great walking spots, and there are lots of low traffic roads around the village for an evening stroll. If you enjoy birdwatching, you can see and hear black francolins close by, and the village was full of swifts. The house is clean and comfortable, with good wifi and aircon. There is everything you need to cook, as well as an outdoor kitchen space. The shaded courtyard is a good space to relax on hot afternoons. The bath is a nice addition to help cool down. Marionos was easy to communicate with and sorted any of our requests quickly. We would recommend Spiti Calliope especially if you enjoy peace and quiet, and being close to nature.

It was beautiful, and would’ve lovely in summer.

We stayed when there was a storm, so shutters and wooden doors were banging all night, power cuts means the emergency lighting keep coming on during the night. We were excited to use the outdoor bath, only to be told there was no hot water available, this was just a “summer” experience.
