The Opium Chiang Mai

Rooms, swimming pools, gym, localization- everything was perfect. A lot of good restaurants pretty near to the hotel. Staff was extra friendly. We enjoyed our 2 weeks here very much.

Breakfast - we couldn’t eat it. We are not peaky - everything’s was very greasy and sweet. This isn’t our first time in Thailand ( actually 5th) so we knew what we should expect. The milk for coffee was curdled and at the first day we ask for the fresh one - and the cooking lady said that it’s normal. Even scrambled eggs were sweet - no clue why. Everything’s else was perfect - except breakfasts;)

The piano music from downstairs can be heard in rooms quite late so would be good if that turned off earlier

Excellent Room Space - Did not take Breakfast or use the Pool but liked two pools

The Shower itself needed replacement and was not fit to use and was a challenge but somehow we managed

The staff were very friendly, the apartment was spacious, and the swimming pool was nice. However, we personally found the location a bit disappointing. We knew it was somewhat outside the city center, but it’s not within walking distance and there are not many facilities nearby. On the other hand, you are right in the middle of local life, which does make the area feel authentic.ol.

The main reason for our lower rating, however, is the noise from the nearby Hangout Complex. We live in Amsterdam ourselves and are used to city noise, but this was extremely loud. It literally felt like someone was singing karaoke (rather bad karaoke) next to our bed from 10 pm until 2 am. We were surprised that we hadn’t read about this in earlier reviews, especially since it appears to be a known issue and, according to the staff, previous guests have already complained about it. We would definitely not have booked if we had known since when you are travelling with young kids you appreciate a good night's sleep. We understand that the hotel itself cannot do much about this and they did try to compensate us by not charging breakfast for the first three days (since we complained after three nights as at first thought it was maybe occasionally), which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the noise still significantly affected our stay. During high season it is also not easy to find suitable alternative accommodation when traveling with young children so it would be nice if they compensated the breakfast for the full stay.
