Easy, comfortable and relaxing for tired adults!

We stayed in The Stables. We loved how comfortable it felt; clean and functional but not so ‘finished’ that you were scared to let the kids loose. The beds and duvets were really comfy and crockery/pots/pans were ample for 18 people. Sunday roast for us all was a breeze! Plenty of fridge and freezer space plus washer and dryer which is essential with kids! Stunning location, about an hour walking to Sudbury hall and all our kids did it no problem (aged 5-10). Tennis courts for some sport action too! Thank you so much for being affordable to normal people, we will be back!

Excellent facilities and location. Lovely for having a big family get together. We were in the Farmhouse which had plenty of space for everyone not to get on top of each other. Great snooker room, table tennis room and hot tub. Everyone enjoyed the stay ❤️

Perfect family vacation.

Spacious (we were 10 adults and 3 young children). Every bedroom had an ensuite and not full of bunk beds making it ideal for adults. Well equipped except could have had hairdryers. Remote location but easy car ride to many attractions and shopping.

Had a great time but suggest some fire pits would be a great addition. Kitchen well equipped although a little tired and labels worn off the range but manageable.

Exceptional

The house itself was absolutely wonderful. Everything we needed and more. We stayed in the Farmhouse as a party of 20. All guests had a wonderful time & thoroughly enjoyed using the space in and out of the house.

Going home on Friday!! Could have easily stayed for the weekend too!

No hot tub included - farmhouse has it listed as there and a selling point of property - what they fail to tell you is it is an extra cost (it does on the intro page to all cottages but we did not access property details via there)

Best night Sunday, absolute bliss, peace and quiet

As an events organising team we wanted to be away from crowds etc.

Very disrespectful fellow accommodation guests, bride and groom party!! Took over the whole car park, out drinking and making a lot of noise until way into the early hours Friday. Same again Saturday night, letting fireworks off, absolutel zero consideration for others staying in the cottages.

Great for family & friends

We go away every year as a group of 4 or 5 families - trying to find somewhere to suit our needs (size & location) is always a challenge, but finding Somersal Cottages made it easy! The property (The Granary) was in an idyllic location. There was sufficient parking and the kitchen was well stocked with more than enough crockery/cutlery etc that we didn't have to put the dishwasher on after each meal. Large American style fridge/freezer & separate tall fridge allowed plenty of storage. The pool table was a very welcome addition & the kids made good use of it. All the bedrooms were a good size and extra beds easy to use. The host was very quick to reply to any questions/queries that we had. We've just booked a return visit for next year.

No where to put things in the bathrooms upstairs like shelves and no where in some to put wet towels.

The purpose of the visit was to meet up with family which was fully met the hot tub was ideal to entertain the children

The equipment in the kitchen, appliances and space in the kitchen diner. Felt spacious but cosy at the same time.

The location meant had to use the car to get anywhere. No pubs, shop to walk to. Narrow lanes were flooded during our stay. But despite the weather the location was too remote

Loved the location it was amazing, peaceful, and an option for walks. It was very scenic. The lodge was beautiful, spacious, and very well maintained.

Superb

The Farmhouse, was large, spacious. Kept children entertained with games room in basement and large grass play area outside, with a lovely tree. Should have packed our tennis rackets to play in tennis courts too.

We all had a great time. The space, both inside and outside was brilliant.

We provided all our own food. Location was excellent. Views were good with plenty of outside space for kids to run around.

We thought there would be a 'starter pack' of tea, coffee, milk but non found. We did bring our own but the last to arrive had the T& C. Pool table was great but as it was in the dinning area, it was noisy.

Overall a good few days stay with family/friends and will go again

The property was worth the money paid. The house was clean and to basic standards. The big table in the kitchen was a great place to sit and talk for families and the kitchen was well equipped with essentials. The best thing was a washing machine and dryer which helped a lot especially after hot tub use. The outside of the house had tennis court and playing area which was good and fresh air. Overall a good spacious property and will go again with family and friends

The lounge of the property was attached to the other property next door so was always unsure about the noise that went out especially whilst playing pool and games. So always had to be pretty careful especially with childrens 2) Could have done with the hot tub having a sheltered area as minimal use of hot tub due to rain, hailstone and cold 3) WIFI connection not very good but was a blessing in disguise

Large rooms, all rooms en suite, good kitchen facilities.

Stipulated hot tub on booking.com was in fact extra cost. Decor was tired needs decorating. Pool table ripped spoilt the game, shower attachment was broke in double room. Not stipulated dogs welcome in some areas, on booking.com it just says dogs welcome.

We had a lovely time all together and managed to tidy up etc in time .

Slightly remote but lovely location. Nice for large family gathering . Liked the Christmas tree. Good heating & seating in lounge area etc . Large number of rooms and beds . Nice to have plenty of single beds too.

Rooms and bathrooms could do with updating . Expensive . Very early check out made packing , tidying and cleaning up after ourselves a little stressful .

Family Christmas break near Ashbourne.we

The facilities and layout of the property was great for our group. It was really warm and comfortable and as this was a Christmas break, having a tree and decorations up made it very festive. The property is very well equipped and in a lovely setting.

Some of the fixtures are in need of repair like broken bath panels and holes in walls.

Great weekend with the family, the Stables was perfect for our group

Location is great no matter what the weather is like. We stayed in the Stables and the property was great for our 13 person family stay, a weekend away with my kids and grand kids

Didn't use the Hot Tub, thought it was overpriced £250 for two days use. One small point - could have done with the dishwasher instructions :)
