The Mermaid and The Pearl Boutique Hotel

The hotel is charming, peaceful, and perfectly located for exploring the island while still feeling like a relaxing getaway. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The a/c works great, after a day at the beach or exploring Isla Mujeres is a big plus. Every detail reflected the care and hospitality of the owners and team. If you're looking for a boutique hotel with exceptional service, a relaxing vibe, and a true island experience, Mermaid & Pearl is a fantastic choice.

Everything was amazing

The room is very spacious and offers plenty of space to feel comfortable. The bed is comfortable, although its softness suggests it may have been designed with American guests in mind. The bed sheets and bedspread are excellent, made from soft, high-quality materials, and the pillows are also of very good quality. The room is equipped with both air conditioning and a ceiling fan, while the bathroom includes useful amenities such as a hairdryer, a makeup mirror, and a bidet. In the kitchen, guests can find pastries, as well as coffee and tea. The balcony features automatic shutters that can completely block out the light, making it easy to create a perfectly dark room for sleeping.

Guests are asked not to enter the hotel wearing shoes. Every property has its own rules, but I found this unnecessarily inconvenient. Hotels all over Mexico manage cleanliness without requiring guests to remove their shoes. The air conditioning was quite weak, although the ceiling fan helped enough to make sleeping comfortable. I reported that the extension cord in the room was not working and asked if it could be replaced. Instead, it was simply adjusted. The problem returned as soon as the cable was moved again. For a property charging premium rates, replacing a faulty extension cord would seem like a more appropriate solution than continuing to repair it. The bathroom drain was clogged, which should have been noticed before guests arrived. The check-in and check-out policy was the most frustrating part of the stay. Check-in starts at 3:00 PM, while check-out is already at 10:00 AM. We asked for a later check-out because we were sick and were granted a generous extra 30 minutes. Meanwhile, housekeeping was still busy with other rooms, making the strict deadline feel arbitrary rather than necessary The hotel is happy to prioritize its own convenience through self check-in for late arrivals, but seems far less flexible when guests need something in return. The same attitude seemed to apply to luggage storage. After check-out, luggage could only be stored until 2:00 PM. For a property positioning itself as a premium accommodation, this felt surprisingly restrictive. Many hotels, including far less expensive ones, have no problem storing bags until late afternoon or evening. There appeared to be plenty of space available, but we were told luggage was not allowed in the reception area. Overall, the hotel seemed to expect guests to adapt to its convenience at every step, while offering very little flexibility in return. Hospitality should work both ways.

Great location in the centre of town close to the ferry terminal. Very well appointed and clean.
