Wonderful stay, couldn’t recommend highly enough. Excellent location, property and host

Breakfast was fantastic. Heather catered for a Vegan and Vegetarian requirement perfectly. Lovely presentation, well thought out choices and couldn't do enough to make sure we were happy/satisfied. The Accommodation was beautiful and in a lovely spot. Nice and quiet area yet only ten to fifteen minutes from Aberystwyth. We were treated to home made Welsh cakes, evening nibbles and pleanty of tea or coffee durring our stay. Heather was a superb host.

Excellent. Charming host and beautiful setting

We cannot recommend Yr Hen Ficerdy enough – we had a wonderful stay there with Heather. She made us feel so welcome. When we arrived she provided a drink and some Welsh cakes in her garden and then took us to our room that looked very comfortable and inviting. It was full of light, and we found the bed very comfortable. There was a separate bathroom next door that was perfect. Heather provided amazing breakfasts with so much choice. We particularly liked her homemade granola, yoghurt and stewed summer fruits. There was choice of other cereals and fruit and a variety of hot beverages and orange juice. Also toast and croissants. Very helpful to us was Heather’s recommendation for a place to have an evening meal and we took her at her word in Aberystwyth having a meal at Glengower Hotel, near to the Cliff Railway.

The finest of welcomes at a beautiful property

What a fabulous host who made us so welcome with plenty of tea and cake and delicious breakfasts. Hope to stay again soon. We loved the private lounge to relax. Next time we hope the weather will give us chance to enjoy the sun chairs in the garden.

Home like - exceptional!

It was superb! A nice quiet area, beautiful views, a beautiful house and an amazing hostess! We felt totally at home. Heather is so lovely! She prepares the most amazing breakfast with home baked bread and croissants, fresh fruit, all regional products presented in a thoughtful way. Heather gave us advice regarding things to do and places to go. It was a fantastic experience! We can't wait to go back!

Heather was lovely, and the breakfast was excellent.

We booked a room with a private bathroom andd hairdrier. The description on booking.com was totally incorrect and I feel we overpaid for what we got, which turned out to be a shared bathroom.

Lovely house and hostess

Heather was quick to reply to my initial enquiry on whether my dog was truly welcome and he ended up being very pampered and he was most definitely welcome. The house and location were perfect for our visit to Aberystwyth - near enough to drive in (approx. 10minutes to the prom) but with the peaceful location that was required. My daughter and I were made to feel very welcome by Heather .The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Heather is a fabulous hostess and I will use again when in the area.

There was a continuous humming noise in the night which was possibly coming from the shower and did disturb our sleep, however on making Heather aware of in the morning she said she'd get her plumber straight on it as she'd not been told of previously. The bathroom was shared with the other guests and whilst this wasn't an issue for us was not clear on the website.

This place is an absolute gem! The host, Heather is wonderful. Very welcoming, friendly and funny. The property is exceptional. Decorated to the highest standards. Breakfast is amazing and Heather is an excellent cook. Very comfortable and clean. We have stayed in a number of hotels in Wales and this is by far the best.

The breakfast was excellent. An amazing choice. The cooked breakfast was delicious, fresh eggs any way you like them. Top ups of tea or coffee if desired. The bedroom was comfortable and well equipped and Heather’s service and attention to detail was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble. All of this made for a very relaxing stay. Diolch yn fawr iawn am bopeth.

Some of the best accommodation in Mid Wales

Yr Hen Ficerdy is situated in Capel Bangor, on the edge of picturesque Cwm Rheidol. This is an area I know well and therefore feel competent to judge the accommodation at The Old Vicarage amongst the very best in the Aberystwyth area. The quiet location, large bedroom (with double aspect windows), comfortably furnished private sitting room and large garden provide all the space you need, especially for a relaxing longer stay of several days. Heather is an excellent host, welcoming you with a pot of tea and plate of cakes and, for breakfast, cooking superb omelettes or pancakes with fresh fruit. I skipped lunch every day I stayed! Evening meals are available in Aberystwyth just 10 minutes drive away. I’ll add that Bow Street station is also only ten minutes drive and offers free parking! Rail fares on this route, compared to mainline services in England, are very reasonable so I travelled to Machynlleth and Aberdovey on the train. Even a day out to visit Portmeirion or Shrewsbury is an option to using the car on much improved but still twisty roads.

Beautifull old house both inside and out. Really comfortable and cosy. A home from home. Heather the owner was great and really looked after us. The breakfasts were amazing with Welsh eggs for breakfast and lovely bacon.
