About this house rental

Arthfan is a converted barn in a tranquil setting with breath-taking views of the Cader Idris and Arran mountain ranges. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, it is within easy reach of the many attractions offered in this part of Wales.
2 Bedrooms sleeping a maximum of 4 plus travel cot. 1 double, 1 twin both on 1st floor.

Bathroom with toilet, washbasin and bath with shower over.

Kitchen/Dining/Lounge open plan with well appointed fully fitted kitchen, electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge , washing machine and freezer, table and chairs seating 4. A small dresser and bar divide the kitchen and lounge area which has an electric fire woodburning style , cream leather 3 piece suite, tv/dvd.

Doors to grounds, magnificent views.

Grounds medium enclosed garden with lawns, garden furniture. Storage for mountain bikes. There is a small stream at side of property which is fenced off.

A lovely well equipped cottage in a very peaceful area. Be aware that the upstairs rooms have quite low ceilings and beams. The cycle store is an added bonus, but could do with a lock on the door. Having said that, the cottage is in a very quiet area, so theft is unlikely.

This was our 3rd year to this area with my Grandsons, first time in this property. The property was very spacious, everything in it you needed and in a stunning location. Sadly the weather was up and down but we still enjoyed a lovely break away. The boys loved it (13 & 10) Liz is just a phone call away should you need her. Would recommend to anyone who loves this part of Wales.

Quaint cottage set in stunning countryside but close to amenities in Dolgellau and just a short drive from dog friendly sandy beaches. Host was very friendly and ensured we had everything we needed.

We stayed in October half term, and found the property easily with the directions given by Elizabeth. It’s a very quiet location with two neighbours (both vacant when we stayed) with footpaths for hiking straight from the door. An hour or so from Snowdon, a little more for Bangor but the roads are decent to navigate around. The local town has a few great eateries, and the co-op is well stocked. Tesco delivered out to us, so don’t forget to book your slot early The shower is a bit of a squeeze at 6’ tall but you can make it work!

Great location for us, only 1 hour to Snowdon or 10 minutes to the beach, nearest town has good facilities such as co-op and good sized spar shop, good food available in the pubs and a very good chip shop, all in all, great location

Lovely location and perfect size for a family of 4 (providing kids are happy sharing a room). 5 minutes from the local town with necessary amenities, and the base of Cadair Idris to get breathtaking views from the summit. The only slight negatives were -the shower/bathroom, over 5'2 is too tall for the shower so need to use the bath instead -no undercover outside seating, we had intermittent showers all week, not cold, but couldn't make the most of the views and tranquility. The host is lovely, accomodating and there for anything if needed. We would/will most definitely go back again.

If you are considering staying near Dolgellau, or North Wales in general, with up to 4 adults, then this is the place for you. Very peaceful location, very spacious accommodation, lots of outside space for the dogs to enjoy, fabulous views and very easy to access Dolgellau and North Wales. The communication with Liz, the host, is excellent, and all the locals were all lovely to us. We will definitely be going back. Thanks Liz xx

‘Arthfan’ was comfortable and spacious which met all our needs. Liz was very helpful and made several phone calls to make sure we had arrived and settled in. The week was spent visiting Harlech, Caernarfon, Criccieth and Beaumaris, which are all within easy driving distance. The nearby town of Dolgellau catered for all our shopping needs. A most enjoyable and relaxing week.

We have had an amazing time in this beautiful cottage. The location was just what we wanted, tranquil but a great base for touring the area. We climbed Snowdon during our stay, visited Barmouth beach, king Arthur’s labyrinth and Bala. There is so much to see and do in the area that we will have to come back and stay here again. Was also great to see the aircraft on the Mach Loop. Liz was an amazing host, really friendly and provided us with plenty of info before our stay. The cottage was really clean and comfortable and we instantly felt like we had a home. We loved sitting in the garden watching the sheep and talking to walkers passing by. Amazing place to stay

If you want a peaceful location with secure surroundings and loads of space then this property ticks all the boxes. And with the added bonus of a great child and Pet friendly garden. The local town of Dolgellau is just 5 minutes (by car) down the road with great pubs and cafes and the fabulous beaches of Barmouth are only 20 minutes away. Liz was more than helpful during our stay and made sure everything was ok. We will definitely be coming back again!

Superb location

We were able to sit outside in the garden looking at the stunning Welsh mountain view listening to sheep and birds and the stream through the garden and nothing else. If you want to just switch off this is a great place.

We enjoyed our stay in Dolgellau at Liz’s cottage. The location was great as it was a few minutes drive into the lovely town, but it felt remote with the gorgeous views and surrounding fields. The cottage was clean and comfortable, although I was glad I packed eye masks for us as it was still bright in the room when going to sleep with light blinds. Would stay again if in the area.

Arthfan is a well-equipped stone cottage situated in the low foothills of Cader Idris. A babbling brook runs beside the cottage and is virtually the only sound apart from birdsong that greets you in the morning. The views are spectacular and walks easily accessible, as is the coast. A special place. Check out the Mach Loop!

Arthfan is a picturesque and relaxing place to stay. It is very well equipped with everything a family could need starting with a very well fitted kitchen (and many other things including a large storage space for bikes and roof boxes, washing line and pegs, freezer, DVD player and much more) we didn't want for anything. It was a very warm and sweet welcome with some Welsh goodies left for us, tea bags and milk in the fridge. There was wifi which was very helpful as mobile reception is variable in the area. There were many necessities throughout which we had not expected. The setting of the property is beautiful, backing right into the mountains and with lovely rolling fields around. The garden is enclosed and plenty big enough for children to run around. There are many excellent walks close by and loads to do within a short drive. We climbed Cadair Idris, visited Barmouth, Harlech Castle and beach, Cregennan Lakes, Snowdon. The perfect spot to base ourselves with the whole of Snowdonia on our doorstep, we will definitely visit again. We found Arthfan quite difficult to find because we forgot to print the instructions which were helpfully emailed to us beforehand! Liz was very helpful indeed and came down to catch us before we drive past for the fifth time! Arthfan is set back a way from the road, once you know where it is, you don't miss it again.

We loved our stay at Arthfan. The property is quite simple and a little dated, but it more than makes up for that with its stunning location. Glorious views from every window, and the only sounds are birds and sheep. Very conveniently located for hiking especially Cader Idris which is a 5 min drive to the start of the track, plus many other walks, beaches and beauty spots within easy reach. And Dolgellau is just a few minutes away for all your shopping needs / restaurants / pubs / bike hire etc. Anyone looking for true peace and beauty in isolation will love this property - and the owner couldn't be nicer or more helpful. We will be back.

We recently stayed at Arthfan, this is a lovely cottage in its own land set back in beautiful scenery near the Cader Idris Mountain. Located not too far from the amenities of Dolgellau this is in a great place. The cottage is perfect for a family get away with everything you need, the shower is little small for the taller guest but it’s not the end of the world. The owners are very friendly and happy to help with anything you might need. This is a lovely property and would definitely reccomend as it almost ticks all the the boxes.

The location of the cottage could not have been better. You can walk straight from your doorstep or enjoy the views from the garden. The cottage was perfect for our family of 4, with plenty of living space and 2 good sized bedrooms. The bathroom was also a good size, however the shower might prove a little snug for anyone tall! It wouldn't put us off though, and I'm sure we'll return.

Das Haus ist gemütlich eingerichtet, die Küche ist gut ausgestattet. Das Obergeschoss ist recht niedrig, insbesondere das Duschen gestaltet sich für große Menschen recht schwierig. Abhilfe ist jedoch geplant, sodass zukünftig Duschen bequem im Sitzen möglich sein sollte. Die Lage des Hauses am Berg ermöglicht einen wunderbaren Blick auf die umgebenden Höhenzüge. Die Umgebung lädt zum Wandern ein. Aber auch Baden ist in ca. 12 km Entfernung (15 - 20 Minuten mit dem Auto) am Meer sehr gut möglich. Einkäufsmöglichkeiten sind in Dolgellau (3 km) oder in Porthmadog (42 km) vorhanden. Besonders erwähnenswert ist auch die freundliche Vermieterin, welche stets sehr hilfsbereit war. Da das Haus, wie dort üblich, keine eigene Hausnummer hat und der Postcode mehrere Gebäude beinhaltet, ist bei der Anreise besonders auf den "Namen" des Hauses "Arthfan" zu achten, welcher an der Straße ausgeschildert ist. Uns hat das Haus gut gefallen und wir würden auch nochmal wiederkommen.
