Onna's Stable, Sotherton

The location is excellent. So many lovely walks nearby - Dunwich Forest and Covehithe beach in particular were favourites. Didn't eat out for our main meals, but so many great places for a coffee and cake, breakfast or lunch - especially the Two Magpies bakery & cafe in Darsham and Emmerdale Farm Shop and cafe just a little further up the road, along with the Black Dog deli in Walberswick. Plenty to see and do in both Southwold and Beccles. Further afield, but also worth a visit are Orford, Aldeburgh and Rendlesham Forest. We were spoilt for choice.

Onna's Stable is a lovely place to stay and there is nothing not to like about it...but there are a few things we felt would make it even better! The main living space has South facing bifold doors and an additional glass door, but there are no curtains to draw over them. Despite it being autumn, we were lucky enough to have very sunny weather and we found that when we returned from our days out, this room was exceptionally warm and took a very long time to cool off again, even after leaving the doors open for ventilation. If you were able to pull the curtains it would minimise this issue and it would also make the room more cosy after dark or in the cooler months. The only other additions that might be welcome are a bath mat for outside the shower (there is a rubber non slip one for the bath, but this has holes in, so the floor got very wet).The kitchen is very well equipped, but an oven tray would be useful, as the only alternative option we found to use was the grill pan - so if you are cooking on 2 shelves, or with both the grill and oven being used, it would certainly help. These are however not intended as criticism of a delightful place to call home for a visit and we would happily return.

Stunning location. Comfortable tastefully decorated and very well equipped. Close to local attractions and beach. Always a wonderful stay at Onnas cottage.

Peaceful, comfortable and spacious Beds particularly comfortable

Needed ice trays/sun shade in garden/bins weren’t emptied outside (on the day they were supposed to be) and overflowing but appreciate that’s not the owners fault Handle was broken off on bbq lid so we fixed it as best we could because we wanted to use it
