L'Orée du Lac - Formule Gîte

A wonderful house that exceeded our expectations. Full of character and beautifully restored, it combines the charm of an old home with every modern comfort. The decoration is tasteful throughout, with attention paid to every detail without ever feeling overdone. The layout is particularly well thought out. Every bedroom has its own bathroom, and there are several indoor and outdoor living spaces, making it easy for everyone to spend time together or enjoy a bit of privacy. Even with a large group, the house never feels crowded. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, and everything you might need during your stay is there. The semi-inground pool is a real bonus and was perfect for relaxing during the hottest part of the day. One of the highlights of the property is undoubtedly the gardens. Both the front garden and the large garden behind the house are shaded by magnificent mature trees, many of which are almost certainly over a century old. They give the property a unique atmosphere and make the outdoor spaces especially pleasant, even in the middle of summer. The owners live in the adjoining house and strike exactly the right balance: always available if needed, yet completely respectful of guests' privacy. They are genuinely warm, welcoming and incredibly helpful, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. A beautiful home, thoughtfully equipped and impeccably maintained. We would happily stay here again.

There is very little to fault, but a couple of points are worth mentioning. Overall, the house was clean: the floors, bedding, towels and kitchenware were all spotless. We did, however, notice a few cobwebs and some dust on certain pieces of furniture, which could easily be addressed with a little more attention before guests arrive. The only other minor drawback is the location in terms of convenience. There are no shops within walking distance, so a car is necessary, even for fresh bread in the morning. That said, this was not a major issue, as a village with a bakery, a small supermarket, a bank and other essential services is only about a five-minute drive away.
