Huone oli pelkistetty, mutta viihtyisä. Sängyn patja oli juuri sopivan jämäkkä ja silti miellyttävän joustava. Sijainti on hienolla paikalla ja ympäristö on hiljainen. Yhteisessä käytössä ollut vedenkeitin helpotti omatoimista aamupalan laittoa.
Lattiaa ei oltu pesty ja jalkapohjiin tuli välittömästi likaa ja hiekkaa niin, että sitä kulkeutui väistämättä myös sänkyyn. Tyyny oli niin paksu, että niska kipeytyi. Vaihtoehto tyynyn osalta olisi säästänyt kivuilta. Äänieristys on heikko, joten naapurihuoneiden äänet kuuluivat läpi.
