    Grandbell Hotel Colombo: Staff Knocking at 1:30 AM If you value your sleep, your peace of mind, or basic professional boundaries, stay far away from the Grandbell Hotel Colombo. My experience here was nothing short of bizarre, exhausting, and entirely unacceptable. After a long day of travel, I settled into my room hoping for a decent night’s rest. Instead, at 1:30 in the morning, my door was aggressively knocked on by hotel staff. To my absolute disbelief, they weren’t there to respond to an emergency or deliver a requested amenity—they were trying to sell me products. I have travelled extensively throughout my life and have genuinely never seen anything like this in any hotel, let alone one that bills itself as a professional establishment. Waking up a paying guest in the middle of the night to pitch merchandise is an astonishing breach of privacy, hospitality, and common sense. Unsurprisingly, I had an utterly miserable night's sleep and was exhausted the following day. This severe operational failure has been formally reported to management, but travellers should be warned: do not expect a quiet, professional environment here. Save your money and book somewhere that understands the fundamental concept of a hotel room being a private sanctuary for its guests.

    It was my second time staying here, and surely it did not disappoint. Last time I choose the Sea view and this time city view. And to my surprise it looked even better. Everything what the hotel has to offer is truly exceptional. Be it the coffee shop at the reception or the amenities at the reception or the bar with the best bites. Everything was great and I am sure my next time to colombo will also be here only

    Rating: 1/5 Stars We had an extremely unpleasant and frustrating stay at this hotel. Traveling with a 1.5-year-old infant, we expected basic hospitality and courtesy, but what we experienced was chaos, complete negligence, and poor service from start to finish. Chaotic & Unhelpful Check-In: Check-in was a nightmare with massive queues and zero staff available to guide guests or assist with luggage. After waiting downstairs, we were sent to another long line at the first-floor reception. Standing in line with an exhausted baby without even a basic welcome drink or offer of assistance set a terrible tone for the stay. Unacceptable Food Options & Discriminatory Treatment: When we called to order infant food, the restaurant claimed they didn't offer any and directed us to a kids' menu consisting mostly of non-veg items completely unsuitable for a toddler. We compromised on an omelette and fries. Upon delivery, the staff demanded immediate payment at the door. Not only is infant food under 2 years typically complimentary across hotels in the country, but charging on the spot directly contradicts basic room-charging policies—privileges we saw other non-Indian guests receiving freely at checkout. Singling us out for immediate payment felt like clear, targeted bias against Indian travelers. Broken Room Amenities & Late-Night Disruption: The TV in our room was broken upon arrival. We had to wait over an hour for a technician, who finally arrived around 9:00 PM and spent 15 minutes fixing it. Having maintenance staff working inside the room late at night while trying to settle an infant to sleep was completely unacceptable. Terrible Customer Service: To top it off, when we requested the General Manager’s email address to escalate these serious issues, the staff blatantly refused to share it. This property is not family-friendly, lacks basic maintenance, and operates with unacceptable standards of hospitality and fairness. Save yourself the stress and book elsewhere.
