La casa di San Nicola

The location is incredible, communication from the host was great. There was air conditioning and a dehumidifier. The room is small but has everything you need. The bed is very comfortable. The room had obviously been cleaned thoroughly before our arrival and there was a faint smell of bleach, which went away quite quickly. The room and shared private breakfast room felt very secure, with good locks but still felt open and inviting. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone travelling light, just be aware of the minor shortfalls.

The room obviously suffers from damp issues, much of the paint is crumbling or flaking, especially in the wardrobe area. White dust was passively falling on our clothes and bags overnight and I worry it could leave marks on darker items. However, they have clearly tried to combat this and know about it as there was a dehumidifier running when we arrived, I think maybe a more powerful model with a bit more capacity may be needed as this needed emptying about once a day. Some of the fixtures are in need of replacing, the toilet seat was loose/detached and there were some gouges out of the shower tray, one of the chairs in the breakfast area is also missing a back support slat but the screws to hold it in place are still sticking out. Checkout was at 10am however the cleaner was hammering on our door about 5 minutes early, not a crazy difference but it ended our trip on a slightly negative note, especially as I was having a last minute use of the toilet before our long train journey. Soundproofing could be better but it's as to be expected with a historic building, just a little amusing to hear the guest next door snoring from time to time.

Good spot if you want to stay in historical area of Bari, quaint and cozy for a short stay
