Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Town: Balallan meaning Allan's Town, is a crofting township on Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. Balallan is within the parish of Lochs. The township is the longest village, being four miles in Lewis, and also in northern Scotland. Straggled along the head of a long sea loch between Arivruach and Laxay, it formed due to a mixture of crofting along the loch shore and fishing. It sits at the head of Loch Erisort. Whether you are visiting the island to see the varied wildlife, the numerous historic sites, or just to get away from it all, you will never be far from scenic surroundings. Beautiful, remote and peaceful, the views are right on your doorstep. Also known as the Outer Hebrides, the Western Isles form a 130 miles arc running from north to south off the north-western coast of Scotland. Taken from north to south they include Lewis, North and South Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra.

This house is the best! It's so quiet and peaceful with gorgeous views. We had one of our favorite family vacations ever. The large living room is a great place to gather with huge windows to look out on the landscape. We cooked multiple meals and the kitchen had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms are large, and everything is brand new. Since we were hiking a lot in all weather, it was great to have a washer and dryer right there in the house. I'm sure if you are considering staying on Lewis and Harris you already know about the famous sites, so I will mention a few other things that made our week great. A lovely place to jog or walk on multiple trails is the Aline Community Woodland. It is less than 10 minutes drive from the house. If you'd like to do a more adventurous hike, sea kayaking, or mountain biking, I highly recommend Wild Harris, a guiding company run by Daryll Brown and Kate Lewis. They are very knowledgable about wildlife, history, and anything you want to know about Harris, and will customize the experience for your party. Finally, do stop at all the community centers in the different villages. They are run by the people of the community who are so welcoming. Each one has interesting displays, good food, and little museums to learn about the history and culture of the place. Lewis and Harris is such a special place, and this house allowed us to experience it first hand, not just as tourists. Thank you so much!
