Ekhaya - New Plymouth Holiday Home

I had a really great time there. It was very comfortable, well appointed and relaxing to stay in. Location: - A 5 minute walk to the - Right next to the start to the Taranaki Coastal Walk where you can walk right into town and pass by Te Rawa Rawa where you can take iconic photos of Mount Taranaki next to the whale bone bridge - A local supermarket, take aways, and a laundromat is a couple of minute drive away. The location is excellent. If you want to do some washing, there is a local laundry mat with washing machines/dryers about a 2 minute drive away. - New Plymouth town is about a 10 minute drive away - Egmont - where a lot of the walks for Mount Taranaki are is about a 30 minute drive away so it's an excellent location. The house: - Thoughtful details such as heated towel racks - Decore is relaxing and aesthetically pleasing - Pleasant views of the garden - Inside/outside dining options provided - Great kitchen to cook in - Games room in a converted garage next to the house - Would be suitable for solo travellers, couples and small groups

Overall, I had a really lovely time. The property is great, although the start wasn’t the smoothest and did cast a bit of a shadow over the arrival. The check-in process was more difficult than expected. The property is behind a high fence and secured gate, and I didn’t realise at the time that the gate could be opened by pressing a discreet button on the mailbox. The access information had been sent via text the day before, but as an overseas guest, I didn’t receive it until several days later. Unfortunately, my phone couldn’t call local numbers, which resulted in me being stuck outside for around an hour on quite a hot day, unsure how to resolve the situation. I eventually got hold of the booking service and learned that the owners lived next door, which I had assumed was another Airbnb, and that they were home. The husband had been working outside during the time I was trying to get in. They were very apologetic once the situation was sorted, but I think it could have been avoided by leaving the gate open for arrival or providing the full access instructions by email at the time of booking. A few minor improvements could also improve the experience. The kitchen bin is quite small if you want to do regular cooking at home, and the main bedroom and bathroom adjoin the owners’ home, so muffled sound carries through, which makes those areas feel a little less private and relaxing.

Minutes from beach, coastal walkway. Hosts were great with our wee dog. Home was great with everything we wanted and some nice extras like you used to get from Airbnb. Comfy beds, great shower, 'spa' type bath. Jigsaw! Shops nearby. Just a great place.

We wanted to stay a little out of town, so that worked well for us, but folks looking for the CBD would be a bit further out.

Nice owners came to say hello. Gorgeous gardens ! The coastal walkway down the street.

Location was perfect for us. Beach at the end of the street was lovely. We utilized the walk paths. Loved the covered outdoor patio and table area at the house. The weather a little wet, so it was good to be able to get outside as it wasn't cold. All info came via email and instructions how to access to the property were easily understood. And thanks for the 2 litre bottle of milk and chocolates!... you don't get that at a hotel!
