Bermonds Locke, Tower Bridge

Woken up with fire alarms, no staff in site, no communications from anybody, cleanliness has dropped hugely in the last year, customer service has followed ..bit of a shame!

Excellent for our little 4-legged! Well air-con, absolutely essential for heatwave.

Perfect for a couple as a base to explore London

After booking, I emailed the company to request a quiet room and to enquire about left luggage. I received no response. I wrote again; still no response. I called the establishment 9 times, but there was no response. I called another number that directed me to WhatsApp, but it didn't work either. I called at 11 o’clock at night; finally, the Night Manager answered. I was beginning to think it was a SCAM. I emailed 3 times, and have never received a response. I arrived and explained my experience to the Duty Manager. She apologised and offered me an early check-in, which was very kind of her. The room was basic, tired and dated. There were stains on the sofa. There was no coffee-making facility, and I had 2 tea bags in a jar full of sugar sachets – very mean (no biscuits). There was only 1 dishwasher and a single washing tablet. I don’t think my room had been used for a while, since the towels smelled unpleasant. I washed them in the machine. The room was quiet, apart from the noisy human traffic outside the door, which was intrusive, the bathroom fan, and the air-conditioning/heating. I heard both of these all night from the apartment above. I did not sleep well throughout my stay as a result. The front staff at breakfast were very friendly and accommodating, and the chief on my last morning was very helpful: he offered me eggs, which I had not been offered on my first 2 mornings! One morning, I moved my dirty dishes that had not been removed from my table to the kitchen counter, thinking I was being helpful. Also, I did not want to sit with dirty dishes while I finished my breakfast. The woman behind the counter shouted at me 3 times: ‘Put them on your table, put them on your table, put them on your table…’ Extraordinary! On another occasion, I took the rubbish from my room down to reception, and the Night Manager told me to take it back to my room! The helpful breakfast staff stepped in and dealt with it. I would recommend this place, as there is much to commend it: the duty manager was very professional, the breakfast staff were most friendly, the breakfast was very good indeed, I liked the room, and my less-than-ideal experience outlined above could be easily addressed. I liked the location; Bermondsey is a great place to stay, and the tube makes it well-connected to the rest of London. The walk to and from the station is easy and quick. There is an Asda and a Co-op just steps away. The staff at the coffee shop at the entrance were friendly and helpful.
