Clean basic hotel with friendly staff

No hot water in shower so had to be moved to another room that wasn’t as clean so a bit disappointed. Beds were comfortable and parking was easy.

Staff were polite & attentive. Property was shabby lift wasn’t working. Carpets threadbare. Cigarette burn marks on carpet. Bed was squeaky & uncomfortable.Room was dingy poor lighting.

Clean and good value for money

Firstly we would use the Hotel Again. It was adequate and priced reasonably. Sadly during most of the night there was heavy traffic, which meant it was difficult to get to sleep.

Basic but very clean

Great hotel in terms of cleanliness and price. Location is great as a base for motorcycling around Northumberland and Durham areas. Great food next door. No breakfast facilities.

I wish I’d read more reviews before booking this hotel, but we were limited for choice due to time constraints and having a dog with us. Apparently the lift hasn’t worked for years - and we were given a room on the third floor. The window of our room only opened a crack, barely letting in any (badly needed) fresh air. The room was very tired and the carpet badly stained. Whoever had painted the bathroom had glossed over the doorframe AND the tiles. It looked like a blind man had been tasked with the job and then not given enough time to complete it. The hot water in the bathroom was just about tepid if you let it run for long enough. Some of the hotel residents seem to be living there permanently, and we saw at least two women hanging around the lobby in their pyjamas/dressing gowns in the middle of the afternoon. We went to the pub next door for an evening meal. When we came back a woman was standing outside the hotel having a heated argument on her phone. When my husband went out 2 hours later to walk the dog she was till there, sobbing into her mobile. On the morning we left two staff were frantically knocking on someone’s door and asking if they were ok. Is this a hotel or a half-way house? I woke up on the middle of the night and the smell of tobacco smoke was so strong in our room that I had to check the hallways to ensure there was no fire. On the plus side, the staff were lovely and very helpful.

Worst place we’ve ever stayed. Tatty, dated, very rough, poorly cleaned, poorly decorated, generally very low quality hotel. Rock hard bed, would have been more comfy on the floor, if the floor was hygienically safe to do so! Room on the top floor and lift permanently out of order and blocked off - difficult for wife with spinal injury. Recommend you avoid this place until they invest some money in it.

The lift didn't work and as I was on crutches the staff moved me from the 3rd floor to the 1st, the room had a stale smell of cigarettes but we only wanted it as a stop off for the pink concert at Sunderland so it was well worth it, also the pub/ restaurant next door is great for an evening meal

The room was clean l, spacious and comfy, but at 01.20am my room was entered by a foreign woman presumably wanting to steal my wallet, car keys etc. Fortunately I woke and was able to evict her. She didn't appear to speak English. The hotel is on a busy main road and despite secondary glazing was extremely noisy from road traffic until late and again from 06.00. Speaking to locals after checking out after 1 night of what was meant to be a 3 night stay, the hotel has a dreadful reputation and is believed to be used to house recently released prisoners and police are in regular attendance to disturbances.

The non smoking room smelled of smoke. The room was distinctly run down.

Old fashioned rooms but clean . Also not cold compared to some guest houses who aren’t putting there heating on . Radiator on demand if required . Pub grub next door to it .

Our stay was great had all we needed for one night to continue driving North the next day. It was not the Ritz it was what you would expect to pay for a two - Three star ACCOMMODATION had a good meal in the pub next door I had a good sleep my wife got sea sick on her twin bed, shower did not work room (# 007) and had to have breakfast at Morrisons up the road, fantastic so all in all it was worth £48 am returning in 6 days so we’ll see if the shower is fixed !!!

It was adequate only used for sleeping disappointed no shower gels/shampoo in bathrooms

Shabby, lift out of order , dubious clientele. Insufficient hot water. Noisy bathroom fan . Dirty windows spiders web in window etc....

Have stayed a number of times, always had a comfortable stay.

A bit dated but spotlessly clean, comfortable bed and pillows, it was perfect for our 2 overnight stays while visiting the Croft motor racing circuit. Very could value for money.

We were visiting friends and just needed a room locally. This hotel was great. It's not new and fancy but was clean and had onsite parking.

Everything is fine

Very helpful and friendly staff . Very basic hotel but good value for money. No shower gel or shampoo provided (just 1 small bar of soap) and no morning breakfast available (even from pub next door). Not a big problem but would have been good to know in advance.

Booked a room with a double bed for my daughter and myself for a night stay, only to find TWO double beds!! For the price we paid it was amazing value for money. Comfortable and relaxing. Would definitely use again.
