It's a small resort with villas with or without a pool. Restaurant is a good and they serve both western & Thai cuisine. There are few other restaurants within walking distance if you want to have a meal elsewhere. But the view is definitely the best in the resort restaurant Gala and pricing is almost the same as in the small places next to the road. Rooms a clean, beds are high quality, staff friendly. Only negative aspect is the location right next to the main road. Rent a motorbike from the reception when you want to sightsee or go to the various beaches in the island

If you're happy to spend a great deal of quiet time at the hotel, relaxing & swimming in your private pool, it's great. But if like me, you want to spend a lot of time on the beach or swimming in the ocean, pick another island altogether. During low tide the ocean receeds so much that it's not only ugly it's not doable :(During high tide ocean looks beautiful but swimming isn't pleasant because there's a clay like, mushy substance on the ocean floor. I was seriously disappointed. Also really not much else to do on the island..... Resort is wonderful though.

23 hours travel to a place you hope will be ok? Well, it was and better. A very warm and friendly welcome, nothing was too much trouble for the always smiling and friendly staff. Beautiful room with a large infinity pool outside the bedroom doors and a view across to the far islands.

It was amazing ; we spend there for two nights .. the room was clean , the pool is wonderful but I advice them to make some privacy in pool .foe customer , You have to close the door all the time to avoid the insects . In spite of this .. it was wonderful place and we had much fun in koh yao yai island !

The island Koh Yoa Yai is a quiet and developing island. The food and staff at the Hillside resort are both great. A very quiet relaxing stay with day trip options for very reasonable prices to sites nearby. Scooter rental is available to get around the island and explore the local eateries and beaches.

I stayed for 8 nights at the resort by myself to relax and finish writing my dissertation in peace. This is not the vacation spot for a single, as the staff was constantly asking what was wrong, why I was alone, etc. It is meant to be a romantic vacation, not a solo-getaway. I stayed in two rooms over the course of my stay and there was a clear difference in quality. My first room type was a deluxe with no pool access. The room itself was spectacular and well-kept, however had no pool. The second room was a bungalow with a pool and it was not as clean, had slab concrete floors, the bathroom facilities were only walled on three sides and the fourth was thatched, which meant bugs and creatures could enter. There was a reptile that makes loud squeaking sounds like a rubber duck scratching the doors and windows and running over the roof at all hours of the night, making it difficult to sleep. If you get a room like this keep the door between the bathroom and the room closed. The outdoor shower was an experience as well, as it wasn't a particularly strong water flow so it took quite a while to wash out shampoo and conditioner from my hair. The highlight was the pool, which was well kept. You also can't argue with the views from any room at the resort. I would also mention that if you want to explore the island and cannot ride a motorbike, this is not the place for you. There is very little to do without a motorbike and you will have a difficult time making it to a beach on foot.

We had a fantastic stay at Koh Yao Yai Hillside resort. Very friendly staff, nice restaurant and clean beatifull rooms and surroundings. Nice sea-view and scooters for rent at a cheap price. We recommend to see the island by scooter. Good if you like eco tourism and want a calm stay and a local feeling.

This hotel is located on the northeastern side of the island. Not really walking distance to any amenities (food, beaches, etc). There is a restaurant on site which is just ok. Highly recommend renting a scooter from the hotel (300 baht/day) to explore the island. I booked a private tour (for a 7 hour trip to Hong Island and other inhabited islands) through the hotel and it was fairly expensive, but you are paying for the convenience. No indoor bathing - only outdoor shower and outdoor jacuzzi. Welcome fruit plate and cold bottled water in the room was a nice touch.

The hotel is very nice and clean, the little bungalows are very comfortable and the bathroom is very well kitted out and sparkling clean. Only downside is it's not on the the beachfront but still you have amazing views from the private terrace of the bungalow. Food was very good also and you get free water, fruit and coffee which is in the room. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Koh Yao Yai. Enjoy!
