The Leaf Oceanside by Katathani Resort

It’s all in the title, so there is not much more to add. I only removed two stars for the facilities because the group room’s extra bed was not up to the same standard and was not as comfortable as the others.

The one thing they could improved on is the internet it was terrible.

Great stay, fantastic hotel, staff were friendly and helpful also great breakfast, clean and spacious room.

I’ll start with the plot twist that occurred before I even arrived. Three days prior to my stay, I received an email informing me that my booking had been moved to your sister property, Khao Lak Sands Hotel, with an “upgrade” to a deluxe room. After checking the location on Google Maps, I quickly realized the hotel was far from the beach and unsuitable for my travel plans. I politely declined the offer and chose to stick with my original booking at Ocean Leaf. Upon arrival, I appreciated the spaciousness of the room. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives largely ended. The mattress was extremely hard—less “restful retreat” and more “unexpected endurance test.” The furniture, with its dark brown tones, felt outdated and clashed with the modern, relaxed atmosphere one would expect at this price point.In terms of amenities, the room only included a kettle rather than a coffee machine, which is now standard in most modern hotels. The television was also outdated, with limited channels and no smart functionality—surprising in an era where streaming is the norm.The pool area, while visually pleasant, was consistently overcrowded with children. As the hotel is clearly positioned as family-friendly, this may work well for families but makes it less suitable for solo travelers or couples seeking peace and quiet. Relaxation by the pool was, unfortunately, quite difficult. The beach situation deserves special mention, as it was both disappointing and misleading. Ocean Leaf Hotel is located in the second row behind the beachfront resorts and does not offer any beach facilities. While guests can walk to the beach, the only option is to place a towel directly on the sand. The sunbeds and umbrellas belong exclusively to the beachfront resorts and are strictly off-limits—you cannot use them, and you can’t even rent them for the day. For anyone who truly enjoys spending time at the beach, this is a significant drawback and should be communicated far more clearly. As a beach lover, I would not recommend this hotel at all for a beach-focused stay. Navigation to the beach could also be improved, as signage was unclear and added unnecessary confusion. Breakfast was acceptable but uninspiring. The experience could be easily elevated by offering fresh juices instead of boxed ones, as well as a wider selection of healthy breads and cheeses. I would like to commend the staff, who were consistently polite and helpful throughout my stay. Unfortunately, good service alone cannot compensate for outdated facilities, missing amenities, and an overall lack of value for money. Given the condition of the rooms, limited modern comforts, and the absence of beach facilities, I found the hotel to be significantly overpriced. Based on my experience, I would not rate Ocean Leaf Hotel above a two-star level, and I did not feel that the price reflected what was offered. There are far better value options in the area. In conclusion, I regret to say that I would not recommend Ocean Leaf Hotel to others. With substantial updates, clearer communication, and improved amenities, the experience could be greatly enhanced—but in its current state, it falls short of expectations.
