We accidentally turned a 2-night birthday splurge into a much longer stay because we just did not want to leave! I originally booked Sandalwood for two nights as a special treat for my birthday, but we loved it so much that we kept extending. Since the same villa wasn’t available each time, we ended up moving around the property and got to experience several different rooms. Our first two were absolutely gorgeous pool villas, and our final stay was in a 2-bedroom deluxe room. Honestly, I didn’t mind the moving because it gave us a chance to see more of the resort. The views are STUNNING. Photos really do not do it justice. Waking up and looking out over Koh Samui from up there was one of those moments where you just sit there and appreciate where you are. The staff were also amazing and made my birthday feel so special. They surprised me with flowers arranged on the bed and a little snack, which I was not expecting at all. It was such a sweet touch. Everyone we dealt with during our stay was warm, helpful, and genuinely hospitable. One warning, though: when they say the resort is on a hill, they mean a HILL. It is extremely steep. A scooter is probably the easiest option if you’re comfortable riding one. If not, be prepared to spend more on taxis, and make sure whatever vehicle picks you up actually has the power to get up there. This is not the hill for a struggling little car! But that hill is also part of why the views are so incredible. We came for two nights and basically kept saying, “Okay…one more.” That probably says everything. Sandalwood was easily one of the most memorable stays of our Thailand trip, especially for my birthday, and I would absolutely come back.

The hill was pretty steep as the hotel states and other reviews state. We used grab app to get rides and never had issues getting a ride or food delivered. Samui has expensive food in general, so yes the hotel resturaunt was a bit pricey but you can always get grab app and order delivery. Staff was kind. View was amazing, wish we stayed longer.

What an amazing hotel. The views are spectacular.
    6 / 10Average·Jun 2026
Access to the hotel was quite difficult due to the steep and slanted road, which made transportation a bit inconvenient. Room service was available, but the prices were quite expensive compared to expectations. Overall, the stay was acceptable, but the location and cost of services could be improved for a better guest experience.
