The Penina Hotel is located in beautiful surroundings and has great potential. The pool area is visually stunning but in urgent need of maintenance, with many broken tiles, unstable stairs, and no poolside service. While the rooms are clean, they are extremely outdated and appear untouched for decades. Service is disappointing for a 5-star hotel—basic amenities like bottled water, conditioner and body lotion are missing. The food is acceptable, but nothing remarkable. The golf course, once likely a highlight, is now neglected and clearly not maintained. It’s unfortunate, as the hotel could be a truly wonderful place with proper care and investment.

We come here every Nov to stay and play golf. Its the best time to play as the course is so dry all summer but only needs a few days of rain to green up again, which usually happens in Oct. They really need to tidy up the areas between the hotel and pool. They have the greenkeeping staff and equipment on site, it wouldn't take much to remedy. Usual tired but clean interior, staff are generally great but occasionally you'll come across a grumpy one. Breakfast is very good, dining good value for a big hotel. We'll no doubt return. Its not modern glam and the price reflects that.

I’ve stayed here over 10 times and I can honestly say it’s no longer a 5 * hotel. Cleaning isn’t great, staff were grumpy and unhelpful and the hotel was so quiet - in the prime August holiday period. I had breakfast and saw 7 other people - no staff at any of the cooked food stations, no gluten free products on offer.
Slow service at lunch despite only 2 other customers- at night it’s like a ghost town. With a huge snooker table in the lounge area where people used to congregate after dinner.
Very sad to see.
New management/owners soon I hope as it has the potential to be a great hotel again.
