It was such an extraordinary 2nights stay at MM, feels truly like a luxury home away from home. The spotless clean and quiet rooms for restful sleeps, the luxe finishings, the Bvlgari toiletries, the outstanding and friendly service staff and the enjoyable dinner at Restaurant Blanc (2026 Michelin guide). Thank you to the MM team for this outstanding experience. I will be back.

Beautiful heritage mansion with a classy design and a peaceful atmosphere. It is a low-density hotel, recommended for guests who do not like crowded places. The environment was calm, comfortable, and relaxing. Special thanks to Lynn from the F&B, who has been working there for 12 years. Since my very first visit many years ago, she has always been responsible, kind, friendly, and very welcoming. The room was comfortable, clean, and well maintained. The facilities were good, and the location is convenient for exploring Penang. Overall, it was a pleasant and memorable stay.

Macalister Mansion has a gorgeous design — it’s definitely a photogenic hotel with plenty of character. When we checked in, the staff did help us carry our luggage upstairs, which was appreciated since all the rooms are located on the first floor and there’s no elevator. However, the experience quickly turned less pleasant. Later during the stay, we couldn’t find any staff when we needed help. No one answered the phone, and when I personally went downstairs, the entire place felt deserted. The soundproofing is poor — I could hear other guests closing doors and walking in the hallway, which affected my rest. Also, the room door uses a heavy, old-fashioned key. You need to manually lock and unlock it from both inside and outside, which felt inconvenient and outdated. The key itself is large and bulky, not ideal for guests who want to travel light or come and go easily. Overall, while I really liked the decor, I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless the hotel improves basic guest services and updates its facilities.
