Hakodate Onuma Prince Hotel

Hakodate Onuma Prince Hotel is the perfect destination for anyone looking to escape the city and immerse themselves in nature. Nestled within Onuma Quasi-National Park, the hotel is surrounded by beautiful forests and tranquil lakes, offering a peaceful atmosphere that's ideal for relaxing and unwinding. If you're looking for shopping centres and city attractions, this isn't the place—but if you appreciate nature, fresh air, and serenity, you'll love it. The hotel is an older property, and some areas do show their age with slightly dated décor and fixtures. However, everything is well maintained, clean, and comfortable, and the spacious surroundings more than make up for the hotel's age. Our room was a good size by Japanese standards, providing plenty of space to relax after a day of exploring. One of the highlights of our stay was the hotel's hot spring. The large indoor bath and open-air onsen overlook the surrounding trees, creating a wonderfully peaceful setting. Soaking in the hot spring while listening to the sounds of nature was one of the most memorable parts of our stay. We travelled by rental car, which made getting around very easy. The hotel offers ample parking and is an excellent base for exploring the national park and nearby attractions. The famous Lucky Pierrot flagship restaurant is only about a 10–15 minute drive away and is well worth a visit for its unique burgers and local atmosphere. There's also a small bakery just outside the hotel, open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, where you can enjoy freshly baked bread and pastries. A particularly convenient feature for longer stays is the complimentary laundry facility. Although the laundry room is located in a separate building just outside the main hotel, it has plenty of top-loading washing machines and dryers that guests can use free of charge, so we never had to wait for a machine. What truly made our stay exceptional, however, was the outstanding hospitality from the staff. We would especially like to thank Peter Howlett, one of the hotel's English-speaking front desk and guest service team members. From the moment we arrived, Peter greeted us with genuine warmth and friendliness, making us feel welcome immediately. His professionalism, local knowledge, and willingness to help with any questions made a lasting impression and added something truly special to our stay. Excellent customer service can make all the difference, and Peter exemplifies the very best of Japanese hospitality. Overall, Hakodate Onuma Prince Hotel may not be the newest hotel, but it offers something far more valuable—a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature, comfortable accommodation, relaxing hot springs, and exceptional service. For travellers with a rental car who want to experience the beauty of Onuma Quasi-National Park while still being within easy driving distance of Hakodate, this hotel is an excellent choice. We would happily stay here again.

Awesome location. Rooms are spacious. Bath tub is big. You also get access to the onsen. Only small thing is we didn't have any toothbrushes or razors Will come again
